Photographer’s Note

Italy has prohibited smoking in all public spaces likes cafes, restaurants, etc... but this apparently does not apply to cities and I caught here the Urbino skyline smoking from the heights of the fortress grounds.

Founded originally by the Romans, Urbino became strategically significant in the VI th century during wars against the Goths when a stronghold was built on top of the hill allowing panoramic coverage of the area around. The main buildings that can be enjoyed there now date from the X th (Duomo) to the XVII th centuries, with the most remarkable "Palazzo Ducale" dating from the XV th century.

This remarkably preserved and restored city belongs to the Unesco World Heritage sites. As often in Italy, visit goes up and down under heat, so bring light clothing, good shoes and sufficient water supply.
