Photographer's Note
Location: This place is located just off the side of the road on the outskirts of Pienza in Tuscany.
About the Photo: This was taken after the sun had already set. I had been waiting for an hour to see if the sun would find its way through the clouds and shine on this building before it went down, but it never did. Oh well, you can't win them all.
I think I also used a ND grad with this photo, but I can't remember.

Hi Ryan - Great photo. The composition is absolutely perfect, how you have tied in the vast grassy area as well as the sky. It looks as though the house is lit up by the sun, as it certainly stands out very nicely. I am surprised to hear you say it wasn't.
The colours are also brilliant - Most times I see a photo with great colours, I notice many of them are taken with th 30D. I think I will have to get my self one some day...
Anyways, I really think you have captured this scene very well.
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi, Ryan. It's the kind of picture most photographers look for when they go to Tuscany. The cypresses, which are so typical in the area, stand very well against the sky. The colour contrasts are wonderful here and the sky is fantastic. Very good composition in thirds.

You know.....on this same spot i stood ten years ago. A Velvia loaded and i waited, waited for almost 2 hours for light that never showed up. I thought, oh well, bad luck. But now seeing this it remind me on that day and the photo gave me a smile and a kind of feeling that this could be my own photo. Okay, it's not a pure Velvia, but it comes really close, and i love it. This was the light i was aiming for.
Thanks Ryan...for this wonderful photo...a photo that i would like to make myself, so a new favorite.
Have a nice weekend, Henk

Hello Ryan,
How can you find those excellent light conditions in your photos? Does the sun shine in a different way in your vicinity???
Absolut tranquility and a perfect place for getting old. Layers of green/blue/orange look enchanting indeed. Congrats,

Hi Ryan,
Don't complain about the light; this is perfect as it is. The building is nicely lit with orange hues of the sunset and the sky is amazing. The poplars (are they poplars?) around the house look great. I love this photo; it shows the beauty of Tuscany, one of the most green and peaceful places to live. Well done.

A classical beauty Ryan -a true painter's sky and the kind of scene that sets me dreaming - I can see the desire to catch the sun on that building - that would have been stunning!
I can't remember if I replied to you in your critique a few days ago but thankyou for your kind words....one day I'm sure I will start exploring landscapes again!
best wishes Kev

Great shot Ryan! The color in this is glorious, so rich vivid and varied that it just jumps out at me. The composition is good too, with the ensemble of trees and building providing an interesting focal point, but the low horizon line giving lots of room for that beautiful sky. Very spacious feeling. Great work!

Ryan, you might not have gotten what you aimed for, but still the result is a very nice photography. The pastel colors of the whole scene are very comforting and gives the right mood to start a calm evenning. I think that your wait paid off and want to thank you a lot for it. I probably would have placed the hgouse even more off center, but that is my personal taste.

Ryan,
Classicly Tuscan composition. The color in the green field and the blue sky is superb as is the last remnants of sunset on the horizon. I sorta wish there would have been a few more of the little yellow flowers in the foreground but the texture of the grass is great. I've got a fall trip to Tuscany planned that I am getting quite excited about.

Hi Ryan,
Looks like we were travelling around Italy at the same time. You are dissatified with the light and color here??? You really DO have VERY high stanbdards for yourself. I thought the light in the clouds and on the building was excellent; as I read the critiques I note that most agree with my assessmrnt of the light. I think Kebeck's critique most echos my thoiughts. Hi Ryan,
That’s the problem with you Ryan, when you become too good at what you’re doing, you begin to complain for nothing, while us, photographers wannabe, would be perfectly happy to get such a great landscape! :-D)
Actually, I know what you mean, waiting for the perfect moment, this magic instant where the sun appears just for you, for very few minutes, as a way to thank you for your patience. So maybe you didn’t get exactly what you were expecting, but you would be ungrateful not to recognize that you snap yourself a magnificient landscape, where the light is still remarkable. All the hues, particularly the orange notes in the very background are superb.
You’ve choose a prefect house, as Tuscan as it can be, surrounded by emblematic trees. The low horizon makes a terrific composition and the clouds get all the space they need to impress the spectator. I should not forget to mention a word about the colors, who are absolutely delightful.
Maybe I would have opted to erase the electric pole, but I respect photographers who prefer to keep the integrity of a scene.
You deserve every points you got! And even more...
André
