[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Il Gigante (the Giant) is the way Bologna's people call the statue of Neptune, because of its three meters of height.
The fountain was built in 1564 by a great Flemish sculptor, Jean Boulogne De Donai called "il Giambologna", mainly to plans originally drawn up by architect Laureati. It represents Neptune cooling down water.
In the background Palazzo d'Accursio, the municipal building with an headstone remembering all Bologna citizens dead for the freedom of Italy.
