Photographer’s Note

The Milan Airport was surprisingly un-crowded and calm, in spite of comments on the Internet that Malpensa is the 'worst' airport. Perhaps my observations are related to a comparison with US airports rather than European airports I began to get anxious that I wouldn’t even get an Italian passport stamp. In an area called passport control rather than customs or immigration, I did get a stamp. It looked like Customs was optional with only 1:50 passers sdetouring to the window. Larry commented that this area seemed wait overbuilt for just a small passenger walkway between buildings, but when he saw the photo of the outside, he commented, “It’s really a major support beam between the two buildings.”
We stayed in a small suburb near the airport that had the feel of a small village with the corner pub serving great cappuccino, a wide variety of complementary snack including pickled cippolino onions, mini-sandwiches, pasta, pizza, salami & cheese. The owner, wearing a North Sails T-shirt to announce his addiction to windsurfing on Lake Cuomo, had decorated the pub with a nautical theme. The Tre Leoni Hotel served the best Veal Scaloppini I’ve ever eaten; the very light sauce letting the flavor of the meat and fungi serve as the primary flavor of the dish. When I arrived at the desk at 5:30 to find out the time, the night clerk made me a cup of cappuccino.
