Photographer’s Note

We spent our w.e. with some friends in their home in Bellagio, a small village on the Lake of Como, famous worldwide for the fantastic panorama, the excellent weather and the top level hotels and restaurants.

Bellaggio is a tourist destination from more than 5 century, when the richest families of Milan built enormous villas on that small corner of the Lake.
Then Bellagio became an important step of the Grand Tour in Europe, and still today the city centre is full of foreigners from all the world, from the backpackers to the tycoons and is full of people of Milan that spent here the w.e.

Bellagio is 60 km north of Milan, at less than 60 minutes by car or 1 hour and 30' by train and ferry via Como.
One of the most beautiful way to go there is on the road of the Passo del Ghisallo, a small pass on the mounts between the 2 arms of the lake (Como and Lecco).
From the top of the Ghisallo there is a wonderful view over Bellagio and on the Lecco arm. Also the way along the lake is fantastic, from both the side, via Como or Via Lecco.

Saturday and yesterday there was a wonderful weather, with all the pubs and restaurants full of people on the open air tables. Sun, good temperature and low humidity.

For the ones that are thinking to buy a small house there, you must know before that the price is around 7-8.000 euros for square meters for a small house in a condos without lake-view.
For the ones with a lake-view it go over the 9.000, 10.000 euros.
For the villas with park we talk about 12-15.000 euros sq/m.

Ciao Paolo. A nice and vividly colorful impression from your weekend by the lake. I like the framing with some shoreline details at the right, and the red/white pole at the left. The flying birds bring a vivid and dynamic aspect. I would perhaps crop a little at the bottom to remove the half-a-bird there. Have a nice day.

Joli cliché de ces mouettes qui font des tâches blanches au-dessus de l'immensité bleue. Une belle luminosité met en valeur les belles couleurs des maisons. Celà doit être agréable de faire un petit tour sur les berges.

I like how the warm colour of the sunlit buildings on the waterfront contrasts with the cold blue that dominates elsewhere in the image, and the wheeling seagulls really seem to "lift" it somehow.

PS I am a real state fanatic, but those prices are too rich for my budget, I think Ill stick to buying an apartment in Peru for 600 USD a square meter.

Lovely postcard from this beautiful place. THe birds make a nice composition and I like the misty background contrasting with the solid and colorful structures. But imho, the striped pole on the left is not that necessary, the frame is already well balanced by the birds. I'd like to 'focus' more on the buildings and the background...please see workshop. great shot anyhow ;)

Hi Paolo,

A fantastic area of Italy which I do not know and this sublime photograph gives really desire for going on a journey there. Framing is successful I find, the sight on the lake of these houses must be marvellous. This flight of gulls is more beautiful effect. A good managment of colours and lights. Good work and thank you for note. Unfortunately I will not be able to buy in the area, not fortunate enough !!!

this is what many would dream as...a perfect landscape photo...border between the lake level and the surrounding banks on the left hand is so delicate...it creates a great mood of a distance...while on the right hand, nicely lit - the luxury hotels overlook the scenery...

The many variations of bluish hue here really give the shot a dreamy, warm feel, despite the winter season. The birds look like they are celebrating spring and the buildings dockside are bathed in fine golden light. A fascinating spot. Thanks for the fine note. Cheers.
