This is a good composition. The woman in the bg is a great addition in this frame. Good colours and PoV.

a good shot. I like the combination of the foreground (the hard news) and the background, that sexy girl. I would however like to see something in the foreground to tie it to the background.

Ahahah, normal! Le Tessin est une province suisse allemande. par contre une très jolie "province", où de surcroît on mange très bien. J'ai lu quelque part que tu te prépares à partir en congé sabatique pendant six mois. T'inquiète: même à l'autre bout du monde tu entendras parler allemand.

J'aime bien ta note pour commencer....moi ca me fait ca tout le temps quand je me trouve en suisse allemande et que je tente de parler en allemand et que les gens me répondent en français ;)
Pis après ils te disent que les suisses romandes n'essaient pas de parler allemand....bande d'enfoirées ;)
Sympa ta compo, pas vraiment de lien entre les 2 plans, mais moi ca me dérange pas. Je trouve la construction de l'image vraiment sympa et la dof est chouette.
Par contre tu lui as fait mal aus chevilles à la miss ;)

I loved your note. That happens to me all the time. I guess we are always tourist no matter the effort level we put when trying to mingle with the local culture. Even if we are in our own country…! Like your photo very much. The composition is cool with a perfect choice on the aperture settings. The girl in the background is surely a tourist because only tourists use public phones nowadays… Probably she is calling home to read the news. :) For me, this link works pretty well!

This image is nice, Yan, the bokeh on this girl is just perfect and the newspapers are readable, but what I miss here is the connection between the two parts of the image, apart from the "stay connected" idea of your title. Nice shot anyway, I just love the violet of her blouse. The note is so true, I was in this kind of situation so many times, even in Holland...

Du hast einen sehr guten Blickwinkel ausgewählt, ich finde die Verwendung dieser Tiefe echt prima, nur ein wenig Schade, dass Du ihre Füsse so abgeschnitten hat ;-)

Ta note est amusante. Moi à l'étranger, on me parle direct dans la langue du pays (même les anciens se laissent piéger), ce qui est bien embarrasant car à part le français, je ne parle rien d'autre :o)

Je cherche le lien entre la femme au téléphone et les journaux, pas évident mais je ne suis pas certain qu'il y en ait, non?
La MAP est bonne, bien placé et l'image est bien équilibrée je trouve.

Hi again Yan, this is a nicely observed photograph but, as others have commented, its strength lies in the girl in the violet blouse adding a human interest (I won't say more) and the link between telephone and newspaper. Exposure, focus and depth-of-field all without fault. Stephen

PS I often have a different problem - speaking the local language but being answered in English. Must say something about my dreadful accents :-)

Cool shot Yan, I have a very similar photo from Turkey which I never uploaded to TE. Its the type of moments that you explain in your note which are one of the great things about travelling abroad, funny translations, having no idea what the other is talking about, as well as the times you do find a local that speaks your own language and you end up chatting forever with them. Although you probably wouldn't seem to have that problem, you seem to know a few different languages.

Good shot - the focus & DOF are controlled well, the colours in the shot are strong. I understand what you are saying in the note, having experienced this myself in various parts of Europe, although I have found that even a minor effort at the local language is often appreciated in some 'tourist' areas.

j'aime beaucoup cette photo par la netteté sur les journaux et au fond la jeune femme au téléphone, qlors on te parle uniquement en allemend là bas, bien sûr c'est aussi bien pour les touristes de s'intégrer dans le pays par la langue locale..

Hi Yan,

This picture is very interesting. I particularly like the nice girl in the background. Your story is very interesting as well. A lot of people are not aware of the linguistic situation in Europe and that for example in Italy we've got plethora of local dialects. I like colors, sharpness and composition of your picture. It's a pity that there's no Polish newspaper there ;)

Quand il y a un lien entre deux éléments de la photo j'suis pas très fort pour les voir. Ici j'ai fait tout de suite le raprochement entre les nouvelles qu'on lit et qu'on s'échange par la parole.

Bon c'était pas tout à fait ça, mais bien vu d'avoir pris que des journeaux écrits en alemand au tessin. Manque le 'Blick'

Le bokeh est sympa et la touche de couleur violette est ravissante.

Beautiful composition. Love the idea here, soft color of the bokeh is alluring. Very nice. [Mostly in the Northern half of Italy--the prevalence of German speaking waiters I mean...right?]
