The Piazza of St Peter's was built by Bernini for pope Alexander VII in 1656-67. It was conceived as a grand approach to the church but had to be planned so that the greatest number of people could see the Pope give his blessing, either from the middle of the façade of the church or from a window in the Vatican Palace. According to Bernini: "As they enter the piazza, the faithful are embraced by the motherly arms of the church".
Four rows of simple and majestic Doric columns, 300 all together, carved from Roman travertine form an oval 650 feet across the long axis marked by three monuments: laterally by fountains, and in the center by an Egyption obelisk that had served as a turning post in the chariot races at the ancient Circus of Nero.

Excellente netteté(perso, j'aurais fermé à f/8).
Certains appelleront cela de la carte postale.
Le cadrage n'a pas du etre évident à réaliser.
Intéressant commentaire Histoire/architecture.
Beau et bon!

Amazing shot. I love the POV, and how it is cropped. The symmetry of this is what really caught my eye!

Hi Robert, you definitively got a very exclusive POV here. I was twice there but didn't get up to the cupula. I was standing by the statues. Good overview of the place and all the little "ants" walking around giving that impression of a very busy place.

Excellent POV that gives a wonderful view of the Piazza as well as the distant avenue which creates beautiful depth. The colors are clear and details remarkably sharp.

Good details in this attractive symmetrical composition!
You found a fine point of view, interesting to see scaling by all the ants on the ground...
