King Victor Emanuel II leads the Vittoriano into battle.
You'll have to learn to like the Vittoriano. It's something of an acquired taste, a thing that slowly develops while visiting the re-opened museum of the Risorgimento in its giant vaults, looking at the people visiting the integrated monument for the Ignoto Militi (unknown soldier) and taking in the marvelous panoramic views from its terraces. It's a real national icon. When you look at it from the Mercati Traianei all things fall into place. It isn't a pretty building but it gives a bod statement how the Italians felt when their land was reunited at the end of the 19th century

Very well taken. I like how the architecture contrasts with the sky and also that you can still see the detail of the building. I love the choice of B&W too. Interesting note. Nicely done!

beautiful powerful shot, Bert.
the female image at the top reminds this one i made, although mine was far more humble :))
i like silhouetes A LOT.
congratulations and thanks for sharing!

Very nice shot of it. The silhouette and the lighting are perfect as is your angle. It looks very much like he is headed into battle with the winged angels on charriots supporting him. I actually have to say I like this building. I think the problem most people have with it is its massive size in relation to everything around it. But I think it is nicely proportioned to itself. Very nicely photographed.

Bold statement - pompous, even. We have statuary like this in the UK, glorifying Imperial power. You've done well to capture this against the sun, keeping detail in the buildings. Maybe crop a little from the left and top?

Hi Bert, the choice of B&W is splendid. The dark sillhoute of the architecture stands out.

Good photo. The monument have no colour, but you could bring to us the must important characteristics of the place. I like it.

Voila de belles silhouettes qui vont toutes en douceurs comme des escaliers nous guider vers la place maîtresse de votre image.
J'aime bien bravo Bert

Wonderful silhouettes Bert! The backlight really works on this theme, giving the building, and mainly the statues a majestic look...your title really match this image. Good work :)

I have always liked playing with silhouettes. I find this pic very well composed, with a main diagonal leading the look from the top left to the bottom right corner. B&W is a good choice here, well done Bert.

This monument is a beauty in itself but hte picture as taken dramatizes it even more.
