[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The really dark sky just before sunset reminded me of Bill Brandts work and I've tried to capture the Tri-X feel and the same small scale buildings below an immense threatening sky that typified his shots of the north of England.
Tech:Shot in B&W mode plus red filter, cropped and adjusted curves in PS

just square it and you're there
colossally powerful..almost ethereal..
full marks..and more.

Wow surreal, like a photo from another century. And a very nice detail with the black "top", pure art, double points from me...

I agree. It's surreal! I only think it's too much black on the top.

I love the feeling of this picture. Did you do any burning in the cloud region? I have not decide on if i like as much back at the top. This may help add to the feeling but its hard to tell on the screen because you can't view the whole picture w/o scrolling. Fuji S2 has a B&W mode? Is their any advantage to that over converting w/ channel mixer or othe methods in photoshop?

Amazing sky, but perhaps just a bit too much black at the top. Light on the water and buildings to the right good too. Excellent work.

SIMPLY GREAT!!!! B&W is really doing the thing here. Love the large sky. Some black on top is good, but I would have left out a bit. There is a bit too much black on top.

I like the idea of this one Richard, A vast threatening sky is always photogenic. In this case however, I feel that there is not enough definition in the top third. I think it would have been better off to get more of the town (... or ease up on the curves on the cloud layer a tad to see if you can get more detail up top)

I've enjoyed your Venice series Rich!

I think one of the best b/w pictures I have seen on TE Richard. It is wonderful – everything else has already been said.

Top b/w image with great tonal qualities and superbly presented, stunning surreal looking sky with good graduation and light, an image to be proud of, worth the click

Brilliant black and white, just amazing. I don't feel the top 25 % of the photo is necessary, out of curosity, why did you include it? Bill

Très belle vue d`ensemble, appuyée par une lumière remarquable...
J`aurais coupé une partie de la partie noire du haut...mais pour le reste se serait "pêché" de toucher à cela....
Très riche comme image.

Realy a nice one Richard,

Great composision, the sky is wonderful, it look like a painting from a prent of the bible. Very good cropping too, my compliments for this one.

tres belle image entre Canalleto et le Greco
Fameux coup d'oeil Monsieur !

Just fantastic...

I like the composition with a very large sky, the contrast, the subject, all...

Very strong composition, wonderfully contrasted image!
Maybe the sky is too heavy on the city, but it also gives a symbolic meaning.
I wonder how a square size would have liked, but I'm sure it couldn't be better than this one... Great work Richard!

This composition reminds me of the specific format of El Greco's works. I like this dominant dark part of the sky, it provokes a lot of interoperation.

This shot is beautiful. I like the large amount of negative space on top for advertising purposes... placement of copy and such. For a personal shot, I would prefer taking a 1/3 off the top. Look great, I'd like this one in my book.

Beautiful framing of this pic.
The city in sunlight, great light on the water and so much sky is wonderful !

The man is right, just square it. Superb job.

Great picture. The dark red filter works perfectly and the huge dark sky above makes it more dramatic... Regards, Adi
