Photographer’s Note
During our one week in the wonderful Lampedusa island (closest and geological part of Africa, but Italian Territory), we rent with the friend a boat to do the round of the island.
Lampedusa have fantastic cliff of more than 100 meters in the most part of the coastline, and there are only 4 or 5 small beaches.
The boat owners were father and son; that one did all on the boat. the father, the man in the picture with the typicall Sicilian hat (the coppola) was very old. In his face there are wires of a life on the sea as fisherman. For the most time of our half day tour he played with cards alone and did an excellent caffè with cannella in a gigantic moka machine for not less than 15 people (the bigger that i saw in my life, and we were totally in 8!).
After the caffe, he singed some Sicilian and Napoletans songs (in the classical stereotype of South Italy!). After that, and after the 3 cup of coffe he told us the entire history of his life, that probably was very interesting, cause i did the II° WW, emigrated in New York City, then in Montevideo, Uruguay, then came back in Lampedusa...unfortunally he spoke only in a strong Sicilian dialect...so for 1 hours and more we don't understand nothing...but nobody has had the courage to stop him!
"Sciuri, sciuri, sciuri di tuttu l'annu
l'amuri ca mi dasti ti lu tornu.
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
Lu sabutu si sapi allegra cori,
beatu cu avi bedda la mugghieri,
cu l'avi bedda ci portai i denari,
cu l'avi brutta ci morì lu cori.
Sciuri, sciuri, sciuri di tuttu l'annu
l'amuri ca mi dasti ti lu tornu.
Si troppu dispittusa tu cu mia,
ca scutu 'n letto su mi 'insonnu a tia.
Si brutta n'ta la faccia a n'ta lu cori
amara cu ti pigghia pi mughieri.
Sciuri, sciuri, sciuri di tuttu l'annu
l'amuri ca mi dasti ti lu tornu.
Sciuri di rosi russi a lu sbucciari,
amaru l'omo ca fimmini cridi,
amara cu si fa supraniari,
l'uscio di paradisu non ni vidi.
Sciuri, sciuri, sciuri di tuttu l'annu
l'amuri ca mi dasti ti lu tornu"

Hi Paolo!
I like the relaxed atmosphere that you captured here.Maybe cropping a bit from the top would make the compo stronger.
regards!

Hi Paolo,
Many thanks for these pleasant note, with the old fisherman, I agree with Hermann for the white part above cropped, but I find the picture very well, certainly the face of the old fisherman.
Have a nice Pentecost weekend.

Paolo:
Every picture tells a story. Yours tells it very well. The note is very telling.
I was so captivated by the subject that was not aware of the probable improvement by cropping until I read the critiques!
Good job!

Ciao Paolo.

Ossequi a vossia, don Paolo!
