The eruption of nearby Mt Vesuvius in 79 ad effectively buried this city in a thick layer of pumice & sealed it as a time capsule of a Roman resort town, which was only discovered, & excavated in 1599, and more extensively in 1748. It is a huge site compared to Ephesus in Turkey and takes a lot longer to explore in depth.

Hello Chris - I like the disciplined straight on composition here. The lines, colours and textures are strong and graphic, a super shot. Warm regards Rosemary

Ces ruines sont toujours très photogéniques, surtout quand la lumière est aussi belle. Les détails ressortent avec une grande netteté. Dire que ces colonnes tiennent encore debout malgré tout.

The very strong vertical and horizontal lines are providing a good patter. Furthermore, the combination of colours are also very harmonic. In other words, a very attractive picture!

My family lives 5 minutes from here, you should have called in and my Super Aunty could have made you a nice plate of vongole :)
It's always wonderful to see this place, and in the strong sunshine, it seems a little less haunting and doomed. When I see it in bad weather it makes me sad not just for the past, but for what may happen in the future :(
Stunning colours and definition, the front-on POV gives is an excellent idea of what. We are looking at and how grand it must have been in its heyday.

Belle et intéressante photo de ces colonnes "survivantes" de Pompéi parfaitement éclairées.

nice the view of this section of Pompei with the rebuilded columns to makes the image even more attractive.I like the created contrast of the colours with the clarity of the scene to be unique.

Fine capture of this piece of the great puzzle named Pompeii. Attractive shot, I like the perfect blue background.

Although this is an amazingly interesting place, it takes great skill to create shots that will interest others and this is one such shot. The columns, with their varied materials do make an attractive start, especially with the inscription. The gaps naturally encourage people to look through them and so proceed deeper, where, besides a wall, we have an open doorway, another very attractive feature for curious humans!
The light is glorious (much better than when we were there) and you have produced a fine, sharp exposure.
Have a great day,

Good evening Chris,
It is amazing how those ancient pillars and beams seem as holding through history. The place had gone through a monumental event in the past and yet many places were left intact.
Good point taken from, well shown to the details.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
