Photographer's Note

When I take pictures like this I feel a bit 'Canaletto, with due respect but the shots on the Canal Grande always remind me his paintings, I think that Canaletto had he lived today would be a wonderful photographer, always magical Venice, even with the bad weather and without the sun

A classical view , may be . But the storrmy weather creates a very beautiful atmosphere . And the gondole in the middle is very well placed in the composition .

A very good "street scene"! I don´t see too many tourists around so maybe this would be a good season to visit this iconic city. A very beautiful view!

une scène dramatique pour une ville qui aura connu pas mal de drames d'ailleurs. Mais un tel ciel n'empêche toutefois pas cette ville de vivre au son des touristes et des gondoles.

Hello Silvio.
Yes, a 'classical' scene from Venice, but still a good one, and this photo captures the weather conditions and light very well. I do like the timing, too - the capture of the gondolier in action, and the other gondola moving across the canal in the distance. It adds a feeling of movement to the scene. Nice work. And yes, this type of shot always looks a bit like a painting. I suppose that is the essence of Venice, though.

A wonderful classic postcard view of Venice with soft pastel colours & excellent sharpness & use of diminishing linear perspective & vanishing point. The gondolier & gondola add scale & animate the scene. Tfs!

Hi Silvio, How not to think about canaletto, seeing the gondolas on Canale grande? Specially after visiting the exhibition of Venetian views. I also tried to be like Canaletto. Nice shot with great depth and pleasant colours.

A famous and most phographed sight of such fantastic image, great tones and superb sharpness in brilliant atmosphere, misty colours and composition.

Classic, but always appreciated! Such places are timeless and even with the millions of tourist, it still have its own atmosphere. Well controlled light and nice colours.
