Bonaria's staircase, a photo from Cagliari, Sardegna

Photographer's Note

The staircase was born from a competition launched in 1960 and won by Roman architects Lucio and Adriano Cambellotti.
The material is a concretion of asphalt cement and stone chips Sardo (granite and limestone), which surrounds the scale, creating space for rest and move up to a peak that dominates the early Christian burial to "arcosolium", found during the work.

Originally the project was to include the spaces to the Columbus Avenue and the sea (on Siccu) in a single solution. Initiated between 1962 and 1963, the staircase was open to the public in 1967, after several interruptions.
The staircase, long, well, it has not a definite axis, instead of using a mass balance rather than symmetry, so that the ascent allows for the progressive discovery of the facade of the basilica, to the Marian column which commemorates the miraculous event (1370 ) arrival by sea of the wooden box containing the venerated statue of Our Lady of Bonaria, however stylistically later.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Bonaria is a religious complex located in the city of Cagliari Piazza Bonaria, on the hill of the same name.

The most important Marian shrine of Sardinia for the Catholic Church, consists of a small church (the true sanctuary of fourteenth-century origin), to the left of the basilica latest, which is accompanied by a larger temple, elevated to the title Papal Basilica Minor by Pope Pius XI in 1926.

ammirando la tua stupenda foto, mi è venuta la voglia di provare a virare in seppia qualche mia foto, anche se devo riconoscere che sarà veramente difficile arrivare alla bellezza ed alla suggestione della tua immagine. Hai fatto uno splendido lavoro in PP, azzeccando la tonalità di seppia che più si addice a questa scena, arricchendola con una piacevole vignettatura che fa aumentare la suggestione ed il fascino dell'antico. Ho apprezzato molto anche la versione a colori nel WS, dalla quale si può capire che, nonostante il pregevole lavoro in PP, sei gia partito da una foto fatta molto bene, con eccellente qualità fotografica. Sinceri complimenti, caro amico, è stato un piacere apprezzare questo tuo lavoro.

Una foto senza tempo. La sepia e vignette danno la scena un'atmosfera di storia. Un momento in tempo per sempre. Gli scallini anche danno una bella prospettiva al'immagine. Gli occhio seguono gli scallini al fine della chiesa strepitosa. La gente anche accentuanno la prospettiva. E quelle nuvole? Maronnamia, sono i ciliegini sulla torta.

Una magnifica composizione, a cui la B & W dà più potere per l'immagine con questo netto contrasto, la foto a colori nel WS trovare deliziosi, scala enorme, una volta in cima che ringraziamo il resto in una delle banche la chiesa, la presenza di un partner, dà le proporzioni della magnificenza della scala, la bellezza ideale complemento di quelli pini.

Mi piace questa di volgere al seppia (non mi pare BN ...) questa foto. La composizione è molto originale e la chiesa sembra fare un pò capolino fra gli alberi.

Si però qui le hai desaturate e non capivo.
Devo dirti che qui hai fatto un lavorone, così la resa rispetto alla versione a colori è straordinaria, sembra una immagine in rilievo, il cielo, la vignettatura i contrasti...una meraviglia!

la bella riuscita di questa foto sta certamente nell'equilibrio compositivo e soprattutto nel trattamento di PP che riporta alla mente immagini degli anni '50. Mi piacciono poco queste cornici colorate...

Oltre alla bellezza del luogo, sicuramente c'è la tua bravura sia compositiva che tecnica.

There's loads of lovely detail and sepia works well for the timelessness feel of the image, it really brings out the texture of the staircase and draws the eyes to main focal of interest. You have retained a lot of detail considering the light conditions there with good contrast and soft shadows but it conveys the bright light very well and this conveys the feeling and atmosphere of the place so well.
