ENGLISH: Benvenuti al Sud means "welcome to the South". The Italian Film Festival is on in Sydney at the moment and I went to see this very funny film about the very real differences between the North and the South of Italy. Once the lead actor discovers he's being transferred to work near Naples, he goes into panic-mode and shows up for his first day at work wearing a bullet-proof vest Much to the confusion of the local Neapolitans. The film is a great laugh and never a truer word was said at the start of the film "When you come to the South, you cry twice. Once when you arrive and once when you leave".
Here we are again on the Isle of Procida, one of the most beautiful parts of Naples, and indeed Italy.

Ciao cara Lisa,
When I travelled in Italy ages ago, I noticed the differences in North and South, and I liked South much more, mainly because of the people there. Northern Italy seemed to me so cold. Lately I visited Trveiso and Venice and I changed my opinion :). fantastic view of your beloved procida. Excellent photo.
Warm regrads, have a great spring weekend

Hello Lisa ,

i'd love to see that movie, sounds funny :)
another thing thats great is this photo of yours.
I am truly inlove with these homes-on-the-hillside type shots that Italy and France (well, alot of europe actually) seem to have.
not sure about aussie land, but we just don't have this here in canada.
looks so charming, so historic. its great that we can see some laundry hanging as well.
can't wait to visit here one day

You have a real talent to capture those old towns in the Naples area and Sicily. The panorama is excellent through the perfect contrasts. I love it!
ikeharel (72273) 2011-09-23 1:52
The houses huddled in a typical italian labyrinth style, and the dome is prominently arise above mid-town buildings.
Superb details on, decorated with the blue sea on BG.
Have a nice weekend.

A splendid overview over this coastal town. I like the off--centre placement of the basilica and the superb detail. Sea and sky make a fine contrast with the pastel tones of the architecture. Enjoy your weekend, which must be very close for you now.

a beautiful study and composition with such subtle and distinctive pastel shades. Perfectly sharp and detailed with an idyllic blue sea and sky to add to the magic. Excellent!
Have a great weekend - regards Brian.
BennyV (17266) 2011-09-23 2:53
Good city view and well captured. The blue in the bg is almost too blue to be true (and takes away some of the attention from the city below). Strong light and contrasts, fine shot.
Enjoy your weekend.
tyro (25362) 2011-09-23 3:10
What a wonderfully "busy" photograph of this beautiful little town. Lots of fascinating detail everywhere you look and all set against a gloriously blue sea and sky.
As ever, sharp, clear and perfectly exposed and with lovely colours.
Sergiom (80856) 2011-09-23 5:15
jemaflor (98141) 2011-09-23 11:22
Well framed, good choice for the vertical format, good effect with the pink color for the house on the bottom of the photo, great light capture.
brianmcc (6219) 2011-09-23 11:53
this is a lovely composition. the shapes and patterns created by the buildings are fascinating. the deep blue sky is a great contrast with the subtle colours of the walls and roofs.
prasun984 (5590) 2011-09-23 13:40
nice top viewed POV to take this cityscape shot...like the colorful buildings with nice textures on building's wall in FG & the deep blue sea in BG...
good exposure controlled with nice color tones & sharpness...
cebe (1491) 2011-09-23 13:59
No doubt, it's a beautiful photo. Pleasantly descriptive, nice subject, pretty light. So Mediterranean. The vertical format suits well with the subjetct. The church is a strong point, the blue sea a marvellous complement.
(As noted by jjcordier, the film you mention seems to be an Italian remake of a well known French movie.)
danos (98585) 2011-09-23 18:11
shapr and clear are the main characteristics of the shot with the whitness of the houses to contrast perfect with the blue of the sea.I like the clear lines of the houses as the beauty of the place.
peppe59 (14555) 2011-09-24 2:28
nobuikehonda (3848) 2011-09-24 3:27
Hello chère Lisa,
Ah…. The sea is blue and blue. And it goes on forever and ever. In contrast, the town below is in white. Stunning contrast creates a magical beauty. I have been to Naples once in my life. But I cried never, there was a little gentleman who guided me everywhere I went. I was very fortunate that I encountered him on the train. I only remember how courteous the people were in Naples. So, I needed no vest. : ) I only have very pleasant experience associated with the south. Just as I see the beauty of this view, my days there still shine with great memories. The church with a dome looks very familiar to me. You have photographed her once before from a different angle and showed her to us once. (?) Once again, I admire the roof gardens. Thank you Lisa, for a brief moment I have retuned to the south through your photo. A great moment has come to visit me once again.
With my very best wishes to you,
Have a great and very pleasant weekend, Lisa

Carissima.
abmdsudi (54660) 2011-09-24 23:28
Great shot and the colours are fantastic in a amazing detail, a wonderful shot and as an aspiring picture to illustrate your usual technical quality. It's a nice composition with the compact houses of old town clinging to the rockface to that wonderful sea in the background while the dome is perfectly in position. Superb balanced exposure with subtle light and colours and the pastel pink is strikingly inviting the eyes, these really make this pic come alive. A charming and picturesque old town very well displayed here. Well done, Congrats
lakshmip1949 (19081) 2011-09-25 4:03
A fabulous shot with the dome standing out among the houses on the hill. This is the beauty about Europe. Nice view of the sea. The colors and sharpness are superb.
ricochet (9696) 2011-09-25 9:16
An excellent point of view which you have taken advantage to offer us a very nice vertical picture, a well balanced composition and the sun is very well oriented! Congrats!
Bon dimanche à toi

Nice view of the south. Typical architecture, colors and light well captured with a good choice of POV. I like how the city stands out the sea and then the sky and how we can feel the narrowness of the streets. Everything looks so tight we would like to get lost in the streets.
vasilpro (41317) 2011-09-25 12:26
Wonderful cityscape composition, beautiful view above the roofs, interesting architecture, lovely light and colors, excellent high POV, very good clarity, sharpness and contrast, TFS!
mkamionka (37259) 2011-09-25 14:35
amazing panorama. The labyrinth of houses is amazing. One can spend a lot of time trying to follow all the paths and search for tiny squares. The dome of the church adds a lot of interest here. Sea on the horizon makes a nice contrast plus emphasizes the fantastic location of this town.

Ola Lisa ,

Ho riconosciuto Procida dai suoi colori delicati, quasi pastello.
Andrò a vederlo prima o poi :P
Ciao! Un abbraccione!
mauro61 (52857) 2011-10-08 1:44
