Photographer's Note

Piazza dell'Anfiteatro in Lucca, was built on the ruins of the old Roman-Anfiteatro
In town. A unique elliptical-shaped piazza, originally built for spectacles and gladiator games, but suffered war and sieges of the medieval period, than the structures was transformed into fortifications.
It was in the 1800s that an architect of Luca, Lorenzo Nottolini, restored the ancient space making the amphitheatre rebuilt into a residential and culture area.

Hello Ike,
The holiday atmosphere is nicely evoked from this well chosen point of view. I like the way the pastel coloured façades sweep round the frame. The man on the bicycle makes an interesting focal point. Some slight over exposure on the right but nothing major.

Thanks dear Ike.
After reading your note, I understand better the circling shape of buildings agglomeration that create a sense of depth related to the near view of bicycles and to that of tourists at mid-plane.

Hello Ike,
What luck you had with the light, even though the sky was very cloudy, the sun shone on the square.
A very lively, full of tourists when I was there, as it was winter and it was bad day, nobody was there.

thanks to good photo quality, do not seem to see a photo, but it seems to be really on the square, among the people that animates the scene nicely. Perfect sharpness, from the bicycle wheel to the most distant window. Excellent photographic work, with the two WS that help to give the exact dimension of the square. Bravo!

The wideness of the piazza is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the building. the cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Ike,

Italian squares are sometimes not square at all. But it must be so in the place which was an amphitheater before. Pleasant view with no cars. Good depth, full of life view with many people going in different directions.

I always have been astonished by this public square. the way in which an ancient place of combat it has become a place within which the architecture gives us a sense of wrapping and protection. beautiful shot, that emphasizes it very well.

I vaguely remember this lovely piazza in Lucca. You've captured a good angle and the contrast is really good. I love the dynamism and sense of movement. This is realy daily life in Italia, I just love it.
