Villa Redenta - Spoleto

It rises on the ruins of an ancient Roman villa, built outside the walls of Spoletium, and is one of the most interesting examples of a suburban villa in Umbria. Redeemed Villa, formerly belonged to the ancient family mansion of Spoleto Martorelli Orsini, already existed in 1603, when the house was called "palatium pulchrum. The present architectural appearance dates back to the Villa Redeemed period between 700 and 800, when the new owners, the Marquis Loccatelli, built a complex of several buildings around a main structure features a square corner towers casino.
Auctioned in 1823, the house was then purchased by the Marquis Francesco Marignoli for four thousand crowns, to be resold, the following year, Pope Leo XII of the Marquis of Genga. The glory of his family is in fact still represented on the ceiling of the hall. But since the late nineteenth century the palace Marignoli returned to the family, the villa, until then known as the "Casino", gained the present name of "Redeemed".
Philip was the noble Marignoli to achieve the beautiful park with about eight hundred and fifty deciduous and coniferous trees sixty-six taller than three meters. In addition to numerous native plants, the garden is also home to plants originating in distant countries and trees even born at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Among the most interesting specimens there is a beautiful and rare cedar of Lebanon, which has about three hundred years! Ultrasecolare magnolia grandiflora is also adjacent to the coffee-house, the friendly hotel in the late rococo style, which cheered the stay of the guests of the Marquis, including also include the two Popes Pius VI and Pius VII.
In 1973 the villa was bought by the Province of Perugia, who opened the park to the public. And in 2004, after a complete restoration, the villa was finally delivered to the Villa Foundation Redeemed, which includes both the Province of Perugia, the town of Spoleto.

Affects the long wall of the villa which opened perfectly plastered on the sides of the main entrance two huge gates with traditional spears on top. The park looks like a jungle with bamboo groves, Chinese bridges, and avenues as far as the eye with the sometimes impenetrable as canopies. And everywhere the ruins, obelisks, fountains, grottos, pools, temples shaded by gigantic giant plants: cedar, cypress, oaks, laurels. And many roses on a beautiful grassy meadow bordered by walls of square box by scissors wise. And the "sculptural rocks, fake ruins cleverly arranged to pause the green with fountains, obelisks, Egyptian portico, rosettes Romanesque columns and statues, carved tables, mosaics of Pompeii taste all the shade of old trees that is the envy of a botanical garden. Suffice it to say that the three cedar trees, which look similar come from Lebanon, from the Atlantic and from the Himalaya. There's even a "neviera" underground, like that of Patricia, or layers Fionchi for the conservation of snow, between layers of dry leaves, would become ice for long drinks of aristocratic owners. There is also a maze of boxwood between cages of exotic birds .. The archaic signs of the zodiac are engraved on bricks and arranged in a straight line in the shadow of a column. The straight line joining the Zodiac is a "meridian line", similar to that of St. Peter's Square in Rome in which the gnomon is the famous obelisk. Most likely is the only existing outside in a garden.
