Photographer's Note
On 12 April 2010 a train derailed between Latsch and Kastelbell, near Merano, Italy, after running into a landslide, causing nine deaths and injuring 28 people. The front carriage was reported to have been left hanging over the Adige River, prevented from falling into the river only by two trees. The landslide which derailed the train is believed to have been caused by a burst irrigation pipe.
The Vinschgau railway line between Merano and Mals in German speaking Vinschgau valley was originally opened in 1906 and reopened in 2005 after over ten years of closure and full modernisation. It marked revival of efficient rail transport on this remote valley. The line uses state of the art 2-car diesel units built by Stadler in Switzerland. In the picture one of those class ATR 100 trains on the terminus station of Mals (in Italian language Malles Venosta).

Hi Kari,
This is a nice shot. I like your composition. The station has an olden day feel to it while the train is modern.
Your note and tribute is really touching as well - thank you for the info.

Hi Kari,
The colorful passenger train is seen in sharp detail and lively colors.
The lighting is superb while the rails create a great sense of depth.
Your note about the tragedy was most informative.

Hi Kari.
Another very striking train shot, and an interesting note - that wasn't reported in the news here, but I suppose that's because no one died. I like the composition, which is at a pleasing angle and allows us to see the fields and houses on the slopes in the distance. With a great sky, a colourful train and interesting railway station building, you have a good collection of elements. Strong perspective, good depth.
Regards,
Andrew

A fitting image to this tragedy, here on your picture I recognize the Thurbo swiss trains I take daily, which was not possible in the TV images...
Have a nice day JY

Hi Kari,
A very interesting picture, with the note and the facts about the recent accident here. It must have felt quite strange to have this picture in your archive on this occasion. But still, a very nice photo of this colourful train and the beautiful landscape behind. We have never travelled by train here, only with car from Dorf Tirol to Austria once...
Kind regards

Dear Kari, I am so sorry to hear of this tragedy, my prayers are with you. We heard nothing on the news here - typical! The title is well chosen and your Note is poignant. The perspective here is excellent and the bright colours really make the tragedy even more unbelievable. TFS and I wish you a good weekend, Lisa

Hello Karia,
Very nice clean & clear image. I like how the train is framed between the station and "gleis" with a bit of the background landscape & beautiful sky. Regrards. Latiff.

Ciao, Kari,
Good title for that situation and an interesting note.
So sad, that this lovely quiet daily life scene could illustrated a tragedy. Good report from Trentino Alto Adige. I like the songs of Joan Jett, no doubt.
Best wishes,
Serghei
