Photographer’s Note
This is the Municipal Art Gallery of Cagliari. Last Sunday I went there to see a photographic exhibition of the German photographer August Sander (1876 –1964) showing the pictures he shot in Sardinia in 1926 – a very interesting ethnography work – I brought with me my camera and seeing that the light was good I tried my chance with it! (:-)
In the workshop you can see the poster of the exhibition.
The Municipal Art Gallery of Cagliari
The museum contains a corpus of about 250 works including paintings and sculptures dating from the mid-nineteenth century to the eighties, and another 250 works in the “rooms of the collector”.
In addition to the artistic patrimony, which has been constituted by donations, bequests and acquisitions, the gallery has a collection of ethnographic materials in Sardinia dating from the end of '700 and the first half of '900, and a collection of prints.
Moreover, since 1999, it houses the art collection donated to the town of Cagliari by the heirs of the collector Francesco Paolo Ingrao.
The gallery, which is also home to temporary exhibitions, was once home to the Historical Archives and Library of Sardinian Studies.
History
The building which now houses the Municipal Gallery of Art dates from the late eighteenth century and was originally a powder magazine.
In 1822 the building underwent some renovations, following a fire.
The neoclassical facade, the only original part of the old building, was built in 1828 according to designs by Charles Boyle of Putifigari.
Once it was dismisses as powder magazine, the building was purchased in the late nineteenth century by the city of Cagliari, who used it as a military barracks and a warehouse.
Only in 1928, after restoration work performed by Ubaldo Badas, the structure became the site of the Municipal Art Gallery. The building underwent further restoration in 2001.
ITALIANO

Ciao Donato ,
I like a lot the great contrasts of colors in this picture : orange vs blue , it is superb . The framing is interesting , but , may be that it would be better , in this style of picture , without the distortion provided by the perspective . I'm not relly sur of that .
Best regards

Ciao Donato

You were right Mr Donato, the light was very good. The tones of orange and blue look amazing. I like the tight cropping and the position of the main roof to the far right of the frame. The image is nice and sharp and very graphical. Great job, TFS, Lisa.

really a superb shot Donato
Excellent saturation of colors
The orange monument of course matches well with the blue sky and if only we could have, instead of the present gray and rainy days , a bit of this gorgeous light

Buongiorno Donato,

Hi Donato.
I don't know, but I think maybe it would be better with another view, maybe include the whole building if possible. Otherwise, nice and strong colours. The orange fit good with the blue sky. Also an interesting note.

Hello, Donato!
Wonderful architecture, shown in a simple but effective framing. In spite of the strong sun there seems to be there at that time, the lighting is excellent. Beautiful job!

Bonsoir, Donato,

Beautiful photo of this Art Gallery, Donato. The contrast between sky and facade is very atractive since the colors are almost complementar. And the statues on top also make a nice silhouette. Thanks for the complementar WS. That poster would make me get in and visit the exhibition too ;-)

Hi Donato,
Wonderful contrast between the orange and blue colour and excellent clarity. I like your perspective and it does not bother me at all. In my view it just shows that you are close and looking up. I am sure you made the best choice when you did not correct it. TFS and have a nice evening!

Hello Donato,
The classical architecture stands well in the strong light!
I like the simplicity of the colour palette, with basically three well matching colours...
The details in the building is well shown, and the street light balances the roof statues..!
Greetings,
