Photographer’s Note

The Basilica of San Gaudenzio boasts one of the three highest towers in Italy and is dedicated to Gaudenzio of Novara, the city's first Christian bishop. The Basilica was built in 1690 after destruction of the old basilica at the order of Spanish Emperor Carlos V.

The architect Pellegrino Tibaldim is responsible for designing most of the structure. However, the more remarkable monumental cupola of the Basilica is a product of the genius of Alessandro Antonelli (the architect who has designed the more famous Mole Antonelliana in Turin).
