Photographer’s Note
Un po di nostalgia per i miei amici italiani.
Taken loooong ago on a winter's afternoon when these folks were appreciating the welcome sun.
I love the combination of the austere, repetitive forms of the columns and the individualistic presence of the Romans.
Scanned from an old B&W film.

Hello klaudio,
A nice capture of the people in a quite mood, all individually well profiled against the backgrund of the pillars, with a fine play of light and shadows.
Regards,
Paul

I like the pattern of columns, and I like the black and white, and the dated atmosphere.
Very nice

Hello Klaudio,
I love the repetition of the upright coloumns guided by curving steps and lines of tiles.
The b&w format is very effective, giving an aged feeling, and what a contrast that the statue-like people are dressed as they are, and not in togas!!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Klaudio,
Your b&w archive from 1987 is a real treasure. This is a piece of art with very well handled light in a great composition. The people are lined up along the pillars as if a director had told them where to sit or stand. A man is walking towards us at the right moment, and a pigeon has been made to fly in front of a lit part of a pillar.
I think this is one of your best photos. Congratulations.

Rado ti se vraćam Dado da pogledam tvoje fotke sa dugom bradom. Prošli put sam objasnio i zašto. Tvoja akcija je za primer. Vredi da svi malo pogledamo po negativima. Puno te pozdravljam i želim lepo proleće.

Hi Klaudio
Well done. This looks like a timeless image. It could have been from the forties. Capturing the gull was a bonus or did you wait until he flew into the frame?

Hello Klaudio,
as you already know, I sometimes have crazy associations when I look at certain photos... so this photo is no exception! For some strange reason it reminded me at one of a scene from one of my most favourite movies "8 1/2"... Why? God only knows!
Excellent composition: people and columns... and a man walking on the right... what a good and necessary balance for the whole composition!
Warmest wishes from very cold and windy-rainy Moscow,
Elena

Ciao Klaudio,
bellissima questa scena, dopo trenta anni in questo posto non č cambiato nulla solo il modo di vestire delle persone,
un bianco e nero eccezionale anche la scansione mi sembra ottima.

Hello Klaudio,
From this POV, the light and shade on the round columns so close to each other has an interesting optical illusion effects. The curved steps and the diminishing scale of the people provide a wonderful sense of depth.
I almost miss noticing the pigeon in flight which is an icing on the cake.
Superb work, really.

Hi Klaudio.
The hats those men are wearing! This shot looks a hundred years old, and yet it was the mid-point of our lives (so far - let's be optimistic). That says something about... what? Rome? Us? Anyway, it's a terrific composition for a young man who had never had the benefit of thousands of TE critiques and a digital camera. The various very sombre - some would say bored, others relaxed: waiting for godot? - looking people make the curved line of columns seem absolutely monumental and immutable. Apart from the very slight over-exposure of some of them, it's a great photo, with it's powerful perspective and depth, unalloyed timeless nostalgia, and that bird. Very good scanning. You've inspired me to get my old box of slides out of mothballs, and find the slide scanning contraption. Now to start scanning the mothballs...
Regards,
Andrew

Nice BW Klaudio, The row of sweeping columns, people sitting on the steps, the light, paved pavement, man walking toward us, his long shadow & the flying pigeon all combine to make this a very appealing scene. You know you are in Italy when you see so many well dressed people, I'm not even sure their clothes are that old fashioned, except maybe for those flares the gentleman is wearing. Another timeless masterpiece that brings back memories. Thanks
Ciao
