Photographer’s Note

What you see in this photo is Cape Teulada, the most southern point of the island if Sardinia. (It lies only 98 nm, or 181 km, from Cap Serrat on the African coast). At its top is m 223 high and almost falls sheer to the sea. So it’s quite impressive when one is sailing near it. As in most capes the wind increases its force all around its point therefore often it makes it difficult navigate towards north.
The whole place is very picturesque, wild and deserted because is part of a vast military area where each year from September to June target practices and military drills are held. It’s forbidden to land and to anchor by the coast too.

Quello che si vede in questa foto è Capo Teulada, la punta più meridionale della Sardegna. (Dista solo 98 mn, o 181 km, da Cap Serrat sulla Costa Africana). E’ alto nel suo culmine 223 m sul livello del mare e quasi a strapiombo per cui fa una certa impressione passarci vicino in navigazione. Come presso la maggior parte dei capi il vento aumenta di intensità in prossimità della sua punta tanto da rendere difficile la navigazione verso nord.
La zona è molto suggestiva e completamente deserta dato che costituisce un’area militare destinata alle esercitazioni belliche. E’ proibito sia scendere a terra che ancorarsi presso la costa.

Ciao Caro Donato,

Una molto bella vista con un'ottimo punto di vista ed uno primo plano graffico molto ben scelto. Questo primo plano dà una buona profundità all immagine ed aperto una interessante prospettiva sul Cape. Gradisco anche la vela colorata rosa sulla destra.

what a curious and interesting composition - and what a contrast between the red sail and the distant hazy mountain in the distance! This is one of the most unusual and interesting photos I've seen. I also like the inclusion of part of the boat: it creates an effect of the viewer being present there, too! And I should say I very much like the DOF! Very beautiful photo, indeed...

Ciao Donato, there's only one thing I like better than a shipwreck and that is a ship that is not wrecked :) What a wonderful composition you have brought us. Ciao Donato.
Primo piano e sfondo destinati a due soggetti distinti, entrembi ben resi e ciascuno degno di attenzione, anche se tutti quei nodi e avvolgimenti - che a te saranno certo utili - catturano un po' troppo la mia attenzione.
Molto buona la luce di ripresa, poco contrastata - orario ideale - e il contrasto del paesaggio marino con la vela rossastra.
Sulla nota: credo che la Sardegna sia piu' distante dall'Africa dei 157 km che tu indichi convertendo 98 miglia (forse hai scambiato il miglio nautico con quello terrestre? verificatelo).

Nice capture Donato, I think you are enjoying living in paradise. Near the sea, loving the sea, in the best part of Italy, what more could one ask. Love the warm colors here and the detail of your yacht, what is the horizontal pole lashed to the pulpit and extending off the starboard side. Nice work my friend.

Larguez les amarres !! Toutes voiles dehors !! Je me sens sur ton bateau en regardant ta photo. C'est limite si je ne sens pas l'écume ronger ma peau ! ;-)
Très belle photo qu'il n'est pas donné à tout le monde de prendre et qui est donc d'autant plus appréciable pour nous.
La composition est magnifique et très bien équilibrée. La lumière est très agréable et cette voile rouge est somptueuse. Il doit être très beau de loin ton bateau également quand les voiles sont déployées.
Tu as réussi à obtenir une photo d'une très belle netteté. Tu as une fonction "stabilisateur de bateau" sur ton appareil photo ? ;-)
En Bretagne aussi ,il y a de nombreux lieux sur la côte qui sont des zones militaires et qu'il est donc interdit d'approcher. Il fut une époque où cela se justifiait mais de nos jours, est-ce vraiment le cas...

I love this kind of compositional device, that makes it appear that we are with you on board the boat. The detail and clarity are spot on and the rock in the background is as sharp as the boat. This is something which would be difficult to get with a DSLR at F4. I suspect that focusing on the boat would render the rock well out of focus, so you would need at least f16 and then the shutter may be too slow to take into consideration the movement of the boat, without racking the ISO up high. All hypothetical as you have taken an excellent shot.

Wonderful sailing picture. The composition is really fine and the organge sail adds some beutiful colour to the scene. What impresses me most here is the depth. All the details of the sailing and the rock in the background are very sharp. TFS and have nice weekend!

L'inquadratura è tecnicamente ineccepibile qui è...la luce laterale e la posizione della prua così è ottima.
La vela rossa è troppo perfetta, l'hai issata solo per la foto ... di la verità.
La nitidezza è notevole, un pò marcato il contrasto sul crinale del capo.
PS: una curiosità: hai una marea di cime avvolte, ma servono?

The red sail contrasts nicely with the the blue hues in the maritime environment, and our attention is directed to the rough cliff ahead...

This is a wonderful shot. I like the impression of being right there on the deck of your boat. An interesting and effective composition. Also the beautiful light, late afternoon lovely atmosphere and excellent depth and sharpness make this an attractive shot. The colours are beautiful and natural. Geniale questa composizione con lo spicchio di vela orange che penetra nel quadro come un aculeo minaccioso a scomporre l'armonia della scena, un pò alla maniera dei simboli del Futurismo! La punta del triangolo sembra spezzare la linea dell'orizzonte. Bella anche l'inquadratura con l'affascinante grafica ed architettura della prua (un altro triangolo, questa volta bianco) così in primo piano a dominare per intero tutta la scena!

Stunning shot, Donato!

The exceptional clarity, sharpness and POV makes the viewer feel as though he is really piloting the seaward vessel with the gentle breeze at his back and adventure on the horizon.
