Photographer’s Note
Terracina is a seaside resort in the south of the Lazio region, between Rome and Naples. One of its attractions is the old part of the town, Centro Storico, which lies uphill from the modern part of Terracina.
The photo shows the Church of Purgatory (Chiesa di Purgatorio). It was built between 1750 and 1787 on the ruins of the medieval church of S. Nicola. Besides being the exclusive example of late-baroque religious architecture in the town, it is also the only centrally planned church having a church-square. The building is unique from the town-planning point of view and for its particular valour. The large front side with tympanum having wavy lines and stucco decorations, as well as its dome and its small pagoda bell tower are remarkable. The relief on the façade is typical of the XVIIIth century fashion for a very direct representation of death. The church was closed at that moment, so I did not get to see its interior.

ciao Lasse,
Ripresa dal basso con un'ottima luce e bello il prospetto della chiesa preso dalla scalinata.
peccato per il cavo che attraversa lo scatto...

Hello Lasse.
Fine example of baroque style, captured in a typical sunny day of our regions. Some contour elements give depth to the shot.
Best regards.
Bobo.

Hello Lasse,
another very well composed shot :) I like it that there are no people in sight: thus I can imagine easier what this place looked like a few centuries ago (if we don't take into account bits of modern life which are seen here and there in this photo ;))
Very good natural colours and pp work!
Kindest regards,
Elena
PS How's the weather in Espoo? It's been very hot here now!

Hello Lasse,
People coming to this church were clearly reminded that they one day would become skeletons, so they'd better fear God and obey the priests (and the landlords), and pay their due to the church while they were still around, or else...
I like the compactness of the grey stones against the brilliantly blue sky. A well composed and well exposed photo.

Hi Lasse,
living in the puristic Northern hemisphere I am always overwhelmed by the beauty of the architecture in the Mediterranean regions. You have captured a very fine example here. Excellent management of the light and very nice contrasts. Your note is also very fascinating! TFS!
Warm regards

Hallo Lasse!
What an impressive facade - what a wonderful light! All parts of the photo are very well exposed and this view upward creates a very good depth. An obviously worth-visiting place!
Saturday, in the very early morning, I'll start to Ascona/Ticino and after it to Vorarlberg/Austria.
So long!
Greetings from sticky-warm Siegen!

Ciao dear Lasse,
it's unbelievable as, after two years, you still have very beautiful unpublished photos of your trip to Italy. The image is rich of many details perfectly defined. Compliments for the management of the light, not easy with this strong brightness. BRAVO!
Ciao, have a nice week end!

Hello Lasse.
A change from your Finnish pictures of the wild open spaces. I like the careful composition here, placing the building off-centre, and making good use of the foliage, lamp and shadowed wall of the building on the right. It's good to look up the steps to this interesting old church, under a lovely blue sky of early Summer. The detail is very clearly captured. Well done.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Lasse,
A very nice church and a very nice view of this church. The POV and the framing are very well selected. The color of the church and of the another dedifice arise very well under this beautiful blue sky. Good managment of light too.
Have a good evening,
Roger
