Photographers Note
PONTE DI RIALTO
Although the photographs I submit to Trekearth are usually in random order, this one is a sequel to the last photograph, Tight Fit, shot just a few hours earlier.
Venice is unique for its canals that serve as streets, bridges as crosswalks, and the Grand Canal, wider and longer than any of the other canals, as its main boulevard. The Grand Canal, defined by a serpentine shape resembling a backwards letter S, has a length of approximately 5 km (3 miles).
For those who have not visited this magnificent city before, but will have an opportunity in the future, I recommend taking a public waterbus, a vaporetto, through the Grand Canal and and even circumnavigating the city to get a good lay of the land. Meanwhile, I recommend a glance at the map-like areal shot submitted by Massimiliano Raineri.
The present image shows a view from a vaporetto, as it approached the wide semi-circular arch of Ponte di Rialto. A gondolier wisely steered his vessel off to one side, making way for larger vessels to simultaneously to pass under the bridge.
The Ponte di Rialto is the last replacement of a line of short-lived bridges that occupied this spot. In 1181 a floating pontoon bridge was first constructed, but wore down from heavy use. The pontoon bridge was replaced by a wooden bridge in 1250, only to be burned down during a mob riot in 1310. Another wooden bridge was hurriedly built in its place. The replacement, however, collapsed in 1444; and, after repairs, collapsed again in 1524. Finally, in 1591 the present masonry structure was built. Its early detractors, no doubt the architects who lost the competition for the commission, predicted that it too would crumble into the Grand Canal. But through 418 years, the massive stone edifice has withstood the onslaught of numberless pedestrians natives and visitors to become one of the most recognizable landmarks of Venice.
Compositionally, this photograph could have been vastly improved, if I had taken another shot above this view, and stitched the two images together vertically. A nice square Carper frame would have made this a better shot. Didi Massoud is the master of stitching, as he demonstrated in the image Typical Architecture I, the pieces organized in a Carper frame.

Good morning (here ;-) neighbour!
A very famous place of our world. I'Ve been there many years ago - but in summe it's so crowded that one nearly cannot enjoy all this architectural beauty there. Your photo shows two of the "landmarks" of Venice in a really wonderful composition. The viewer feels like sitting in a gondola ...
Have a nice Sunday!

Hi Bulent,
Nice photo of Venice, just the most famous view - Ponte di Rialto and a gondola. Quite like in Las Vegas:)). I am looking forward to seeing this special view by myself during TE-meeting in April. It would be fantastic if you could be there too.

Hello Bulent,
A first rate image and most creative perspective giving the feeling of being in the water approaching the curve of the canal. You captured perfectly the atmosphere of Venice! The explanation of the history of the bridge and the shape of the canal is informative and interesting. Your photographs of Venice are a great tribute the city!
Kind regards,

Merhaba, Bulent -
Nice photo of daily life in Venice - yes, gondolas are part of the daily life - with a very different POV. The gondolier is well placed (another second either way and it wouldn't work as well) and the view through the bridge is enchanting.
Something about the top of the picture bothers me, though; I think it was cut off a bit too much.
Best,
Dan

Hello Bulent
It's such a perfect way to present Venice... By looking at your picture, I believe I am in this marvelous city !
The typical gondola is ideally placed to let us appreciate the colorful facades in the background, and the impressive arch of the Rialto bridge
Very pleasant scene.

Hi Bulent. A never before seen perspective and the Gondola is well positioned to see the man rowing it along. It is good POV to see the underpart of the bridge as we see it. That bridge looks very special. Makes me want to visit one day. TFS. Murray.

Merhaba Bulent!
This looks more friendly as a sight compared to the speed boat. Rialto very nicely frames the foto at the upper part and allows a good view behind in a excellent detail. The inclusion of the gondola off centre is a necessary addition to get the local flavor and does not dispupt the excellent bg.
Have a good day and TFS

Hi Bülent,
Like on the other one, this also has something of "tourist snapshot", namely because of the harsh light and all those people on the top of the bridge. But looking at it more carefully, it reveals a very accomplished compo, with the gondola making a graceful visual arrangement with the bridge and the gondolier standing out. Another lovely photo!

A closer view of this interesting famous bridge reveals that, besides the beauty of architecture, that taggers are also in Venice, unfortunately !!! Nice balance in this shot, I like the position of the gondola in the picture, leaving the view under the bridge. The light is very pleasant. Hello Professor 'A'
Your fourth post of the gondolas & gondoliers of Venice? Like the nice green colour of the canal in the FG. The gondola is fairly well placed in the frame...perhaps IMO you could have waited for a second more, for him to be just below the bridge. Lots of tourists on top of the bridge as well!
With Warmest regards

The task of going under the bridge is much easier in here than one seen in your previous post. The interesting thing about this picture is to see so many people looking towards the water. There is no apparent reason for that.
The pic is fantastic, even If I would have cloned or cropped the top right corner. Well done.
