Piazza dei Signori, Verona, Italy.
Piazza dei Signori, also known as Piazza Dante, is the heart of the old core of the town. Piazza dei Signori is surrounded by buildings and monuments of great historical and architectural importance like Palazzo del Comune, Loggia del Consiglio, Palazzo del Governo.
Monument to great poet Dante Alighieri. He was born in Florence in 1256. He fell in love on first sight of Beatrice Portinari at age 9. He saw her twice more, at ages 18 and 25. He was the foremost poet of his day, and wrote the Divine Comedy as a metaphor of his own spiritual journey. Also a Florentine politician, Alighieri found himself in exile when the opposing Ghibelline faction overthrew the Guelf's. He died in Venice, in 1321. |
