Photographer's Note

We were sailing across Lake Garda from Gargano to Sirmione when we passed this small island.

Isola Di Garda has been inhabited since Roman times.
In 879 it was donated by Charlemagne to the monks of San Zeno in Verona, when all the riviera from Rivotella to Maguzzano passed under the jurisdiction of the Veronese monastery.
In the 13th century St.Francis founded a hermitage here.
And so its history goes on....At the end of the 19th century it was acquired by the Borghese family, who entrusted Luigi Rovelli with the restoration of this magnificent villa, built in Venetian style and rising in the middle of a luxuriant park.
