Ponte Pietra, a photo from Verona, Veneto

Photographer's Note

The Ponte Pietra (Italian for "Stone Bridge"), once known as the Pons Marmoreus, is a Roman arch bridge crossing the Adige River in Verona, Italy. The bridge was completed in 100 BC, and the Via Postumia from Genua to the Brenner Pass passed over it.
It originally flanked another Roman bridge, the Pons Postumius; both structures provided the city (on the right bank) with access to the Roman theatre on the east bank. The arch nearest to the right bank of the Adige was rebuilt in 1298 by Alberto I della Scala. Four arches of the bridge were blown up by retreating German troops in World War II, but rebuilt in 1957 with original materials. (wikipedia)
From what I managed to get to known it is one of the oldest bridges in the city and it replaced the former wooden one. The bridge’s eventful history and the preservation of elements from all periods, from ancient times to the present, have made the bridge a symbol of Verona’s history.

Great POV and nice color. I love the different shades of brown and yellow against the green of the water. Well-composed photo, with the two towers close to the one-third point and the bridge joining them.

Hi Kamila,

I don't know how to say this without sounding as if I'm diminishing your photography skills, but I have to ask...Is it just me, or is it virtually impossible to take a picture in Italy without it being something good? :) Of course, I only mean that as a compliment because this is another fine job you've done in creating this image. I really like the contrast of the dark sky, with just a trace of clouds, that gives a deep mood and makes for some great color contrast. The arrangement is quite lovely, I particularly like your placement of the tower. You've given everything enough depth so that it doesn't appear to be sitting right on the bridge, a well chosen point of view. Sharp detail and exposure have also helped set the atmosphere. Great shot!

Czesc Kamila,
architektura jest tak piekna,ze nawet pochmurne niebo nie jest w stanie zepsuc tutaj niczego.Powiedzialbym nawet ze moze i jest w tym przypadku atutem-znakomicie dobralas tutaj kontrast,tak ze budynki wygladaja rewelacyjnie na tle szarego nieba.Super prezentacja i wykonanie.

Very beautiful arch bridge as lead-in to the view of the historic buildings along the river.
The tower at the right has a splendid entrance gate of the old town.
The image is very well balanced and the red and yellow colours make the buildings stand out well against that grey clouded sky.

un très vieux pont bien mis en valeur avec les contrastes surtout la couleur du ciel, l'église en arrière plan, l'entrée que l'on aperçoit avec la voute après le pont, un beau cadrage et une belle architecture

You post many beautiful pictures & it's difficult to choose which one to comment on.
This is a picture post card from Verona, a scene I am not familiar with. The old bridge looks good spanning across the frame. The Campanile is a strong focal point as is the other tower just across the bridge. Well done!
