Photographer's Note

There is only one place in the world you can see these types of boats, and that's Venice. Of course they are archaic now, but such a beautiful design, simple, graceful, and so evocative of a bygone time. Although it's expensive and a bit of a cliche, taking a gondola ride not only allows you to experience the city as people in past centuries, but it also allows you to see the buildings from the water. That's important, because many of the buildings have their main entrance and facade facing the water, not the street, as the main mode of travel for the upper classes was by boat.
I deliberatly went for a high contrast look as I liked the shapes of the gondolas and wanted to present it in a very graphic way.
