The Bridge of Sighs (Italian: Ponte dei Sospiri) is a bridge in Venice, northern Italy. The enclosed bridge is made of white limestone and has windows with stone bars. It passes over the Rio di Palazzo and connects the New Prison to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace. It was designed by Antoni Contino (whose uncle Antonio da Ponte had designed the Rialto Bridge), and built in 1602.
The view from the Bridge of Sighs was the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. The bridge name, given by Lord Byron in the 19th century, comes from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells. In reality, the days of inquisitions and summary executions were over by the time the bridge was built and the cells under the palace roof were occupied mostly by small-time criminals. In addition, little could be seen from inside the Bridge due to the stone grills covering the windows.
A local legend says that lovers will be granted eternal love and bliss if they kiss on a gondola at sunset under the Bridge Of Sighs

This is a classic - The Venice that we all want to dream of. The harsh reduction of colours and the enhanced sharpness of images have elevated the mood and infused the magic in the photograph.
The man on the Gondola on the left - presumable with a family on it, a gondola just below the bridge, and the bright light from the Grand Canal is ablolutely facinating.
Thanks for sharing this beauty.

Beautiful old postcard from Venice, that contains the Bridge of Sighs and the surrounding beautiful architecture.
Nice frame and composition in sepia tone right.

Hello Silvio my Friend,
Your fabulous photography just continues no end and may it never end. This is art and I love it. I could talk about the composition, shapes, patterns and illumination no end but you know it all. What a pleasure to view. Well done and best wishes.

Buonanotte! Luciano

Ciao caro Silvio,
This is a beautiful photograph of a well known sight in Venice - and perfectly taken too.
I love the way you have edited this picture - it looks just like a pen and ink drawing with wonderful shading and light and with the most exquisite details. The composition is perfect and the overall view absolutely stunning.

I saw in the WS versions., But definitely this is a stunning beauty, looks and reminds me of an old lithograph, very beautiful shades of gray and lights ideal.
A wonderful job my friend, I love it.
Have a nice day.

A very interesting note!
I love the name, the Bridge of Sighs.
and the romantic ideal of kissing under it at sunset.
the photo as that ol' time charm, as if it were taken decades ago, I can't really see anything that would give it away as a 2012 year photo.
I guess thats the charm of Venice right?
lovely historical looking photo.
