La Punta della Dogana,

Venice may be built on more than 100 islands and millions of wooden pilings, but its real foundation has always been international trade and tourism. For centuries, the Serene Republic of Venice was the meeting place of East and West, with ships ferrying goods between Europe and ports from the Holy Land to the Far East.
Arriving cargo ships were inspected by customs officials at the Punta della Dogana, or Customs Point. This wedge of land is between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal, overlooking the Saint Mark Basin, across the water and a few hundred yards to the west of St. Mark's Square.
Situated at the tip of the Dorsoduro peninsula, barely seen in this shot, is the shiny white sculpture of a boy holding a frog. This statue is work of the American artist Charles Ray, better seen here here, a beautiful photo by Simonetta (BluSimo)

La Punta della Dogana o Punta della Salute o Punta da Màr è una zona di Venezia, sottile punta triangolare di divisione tra il Canal Grande e il Canale della Giudecca, prospiciente il Bacino San Marco.
La zona ospita tre importanti complessi architettonici: la Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, il seminario patriarcale e il complesso della Dogana da Mar, da cui l'area prende il nome.
Ai tempi della Repubblica di Venezia il complesso, per la sua posizione centrale tra il Bacino di San Marco e l'imbocco del Canal Grande e del Canale della Giudecca, veniva utilizzato come sede doganale per le merci e i beni oggetto del commercio navale.
Sulla punta della Dogana, appena visibile nella foto, c’e la scultura del ragazzo con la rana in mano. La statua è opera dell'artista americano Charles Ray, nella bellissima foto di Simonetta (BluSimo) si vede meglio, eccola qui qui.

Beautiful POV, gives us a nice aerial glimpse of Venice. Wonderful colors. The understated effect of HDR really worked out very well enabling fantastic details to be seen. Love the ambiance and the feel of this image. Very nice capture!

Fantastic high pov overlooking Venice with superb sunset colors & good sharpness. I like the warm vs cold color contrast between the blue & orange. Well composed using the rule of thirds. Tfs!

Wow, this POV is stupendous. The photo has it all, you slip between portrait and landscape genres so easily and skillfully. The colours are magical, as is the perspective of those pontoon thingys in the foreground. The mist in the background is the chrry on the cake. And if that wasn't enough you give us also one of Simo's masterpieces. 10 e lode!

Hello Santo - Apart from being a really lovely, well composed shot, the colours and tones are extraordinary. The light and colour on the dome echoes the sky which in turn contrast perfectly with the soft greys in the water. A masterful cityscape. Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Santo,
The triangular shape of the peninsula and the "things" in the water provide the composition with a lot of nice diagonals. The light and the magnificent buildings would have made this a great composition in any case. Regardless of the crowds of tourists, high prices and an occasional smell of garbage and stagnant water Venice is no doubt a very special place.

This is a very lively shot with full of atmosphere.

Cioa Santo,
spectacular the sunset colours over the venice with the panoramic view of the city to be presented so beautiful and unique.I like the V shape of the waterfront with the dome of the cathedral to dominates the image.

Ma che splendida foto Santo!! (scattata dalla nave, immagino...)e ottimo il lavoro in post che rende quasi irreale questa veduta sulla città; mi piacciono molto i toni spenti degli edifici a cui fanno da contraltare le luci artificiali e il colore del tramonto. sembra più inverno che autunno, il 1° ottobre era una giornata splendida di sole, me la ricordo bene, per cui il risultato mi sbalestra anche di più :-)Il background mostra le luci e gli edifici spettrali di Porto Marghera, motivo-presenza di dolorosa contraddizione che mi fa amare Venezia ancora di più. bravissimo, una grande foto.

Un buon punto di vista per scoprire questa bella parte di Venezia, con la punta triangolare e i suo complesso religioso. un tramonto superbo, che colori!
La gru a sinistra è magari l'unico elemento che si poteva togliere, pero è un dettaglio minore.

By the way, qualche giorni fa, ho fato un comment su "Tennis Action for Craig", pero come c'era dei problemi, è scomparso :)

Che bea! A gatu ciapada daea nave? Peccà par chel casso de gru che rompe e bae, ma in ogni caso a resta na foto stupenda. Se pol vedar parfin e luci de Marghera! Me piase come te gà gestio a luce, morbida e soffusa, sicuramente a crea na atmosfera suggestiva. Ogni volta che vao a Venessia vorria averte de fianco. Beh, chissà che te torni presto in Italia! ;-)

Bonjour Santo,
un moment bien choisi dans la journée pour nous proposer une vue de Venise un peu plus inhabituelle. Mises à part ces deux grues inesthétiques, la vue est vraiment remarquable jusqu'à la couleur de ce ciel.
