There is another photo by vesilvio of the right sided tower of this fort on Trekearth with a lot of historical detail. http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Italy/Veneto/Venice/Cavallino/photo440821.htm Forte Vecchio or Treporti near Venice was built between 1845 and 1851 by the Austrians and this part is shaped like a boat, the Forte makes an impressive if eccentric sight. As suggested by vesilvio, we were cycling along the Lido which and saw this before heading out to the Saccagnana marshes. It is a wonderful way to explore this very flat part of Italy.
