Photographer's Note
At the centre point of the ancient city of Amelia, and situated on the city's highest point, is Il Duomo, the Roman Catholic Cathedral, which dates originally from the 9th Century but which was rebuilt in the 17th Century. You can see the beautiful dome and cupola of the cathedral at top left in the picture.
Next to the cathedral stands the 11th Century Torre Civica, or Civic Tower, a beautifully simple tower rising to over 30 metres and built with duodecagonal cross-section.
Unfortunately, neither of these fine buildings lends itself to photography due to the presence of so many other buildings closely built around about them but I thought it appropriate to photograph them from the west from a narrow nearby street.
You can see from where I took this picture if you look at this map, drag the little yellow man down to the red cross and pan around. You can also navigate the nearby streets and see if you can achieve a better viewpoint than I did!
Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE9.

Hello John - you have managed the exposure very well here with a good balance between sunlit and shadowed areas. The composition is well considered with a variety of geometric shapes and textures which I find interesting and attractive. The yellow domes rises colourfully from the more subdued colours of the surrounding buildings and adds a wonderfully 'sunny' FP against the pretty sky. I like this photograph very much, well done! Best regards Rosemary

Hi John!
I like the shadows that you create with the great use of light. I like to see in the image of stone types and colors of buildings based on seniority. It looks like a place rich in history!
With these narrow, cluttered that we can see on the map
Have a nice day!

Hello John,
You found a fine spot to take this photo and managed to create a great number of angles and lines and surfaces of various shapes and colours. There is a dynamic balance between shaded and sunlit areas and fine details, such as the elegant lamp.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi John,
A very good POV and a very careful cropping. There are many lines in this picture and together they provide a very fine composition. Once again, it is very interesting to be guided by "the yellow man" around the streets here. I like the note too (and I also appreciate an earlier link to your Agriturismo. We will keep that in mind for next year).
Kind regards
Gunnar

Gidday John
I like your POV here and the diagonal lines and lens distortion you've used to accentuate the scale of this lovely church. Lovely strong saturation and good management of the light conditions.
Thanks for sharing and I wish you a lovely day

Hi John
I like this one...
Personally, its always difficult to shoot a scene where there is a combination of light and shadow, so i really appreciate this.
love all the diagonal lines, the cutting and geometry.
the dome atop the frame is the contrast needed, making it seem softer compared to the sharpness of all the other straight lines.
nice one
cheers
