Torreorsina
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Torreorsina (or Orsina Tower) is a village in the municipality of Terni, in the province of Terni, located 11 km from the capital.
This village is situated on the hill of Santa Maria (326 m asl).
According to the 2001 census, the population is 281.
The ancient medieval village, perched on a hill like all the other towns of the Nera Valley, is just 11 km from the city of Terni. Its origins can be traced back as the eleventh century, after the destruction of the castle of Collestatte at the hands of an army in the pay of the Abbot of Farfa, thirteen families moved to the nearby hill (or Monte) Santa Maria, building a cluster that took the name of Villa Sanctae Mariae. Destroyed in 1264, during the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines, in 1270, the Community of Collestatte gives the City of Spoleto the hill with the ruins of St. Mary, as a reward for their help and to erect new fortifications.
Around a tower surviving the few remaining families built the Castrum Turris, who in 1271 became one feud with Collestatte, ruled by the Orsini family feud strain said Castle. In 1586, the country gets from his master, Corradino Orsini Duke of Bomarzo, its own seal with coat of arms, consisting of a tower surmounted by a rose with the word around TVRRIS VRSINAE.
In 1627 Ursinae Turris gets autonomy from Collestatte and held for three centuries Tips free until its territory is not aggregated, in 1927, in the municipality of Terni. Orsina tower remains in the hands of the Orsini Castle until 1640, when Horace Orsini sells his share of the estate to the Guidi di Bagno, in 1656, then move on to Mattei-Orsini, Duke of Paganica, and then the Count Cerbelli of Nepi, which yields in 1752 accounts Manassei of Terni. They had already in 1662 bought half of the jurisdiction of Collestatte and Torre Orsina, in parts of the property of the Orsini Monterotondo of Sassatelli of Imola, the Valignani of Chieti and Savelli Rome.
On the main square of Torreorsina, dedicated to St. Roch, the patron saint of the village, overlooking the late-Renaissance church of Santa Maria Assunta (the first dedicated to Saint Rocco), built in 1580 and inside has a single nave with a transept and chapels all covered by a barrel vault. The dome stands the crossing with the transept, one architectural scheme suited to the requirements resulting from the Counter-Reformation Council of Trent. On the high altar of San Rocco a Glory of the Roman school. Beneath the altar is preserved body of the soldier martyr Theodore, extracted from the catacombs of San Saturnino, ie Trasone Cemetery in Rome, gave the clergy of Torreorsina in 1764. The following year he was acclaimed patron and in 1769 it was ordered the wooden statue of Matteo German sculptor in Rome, dressed in a tunic embellished by jewelers Roman Carlo Sartori and Philip Pozzi.Altra interesting painting depicting the Madonna and Child with SS.Giuseppe and John the Baptist.
Remarkable for its workmanship and unique among the countries in the area is the Renaissance gate in white travertine, built by the Orsini closure of the village when he expanded the wall fence. The medieval center is spread in an elliptical shape with narrow streets and characteristic arches that branch off from the central core consisting of the parish of Santa Maria de Turre, now called S. Antonio. In the village consists of palaces built between the sixteenth and eighteenth century stands the Palazzo feudal raised by the Orsini, but its eighteenth-century appearance is due to the transformation desired by Manassei with a splendid noble hall completely painted around 1765, with views of Collestatte and Tower Orsini and the square Casino Manassei built in 1778 with a clock six hours on the pediment.
Recently on the hill top where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Cascade Falls, and all neighboring countries situated along the valley of the Nera, was made an open air museum with thirteen sculptures by Aurelio de Felice, a native of these places.
Already an independent municipality, called Torre Orsina until 1927 and part of the province of Perugia, was merged in the same year by the current policy.
The economy of the village depended on in the past, from the cultivation of the fields, farming and the cultivation of olive trees. After the Second World War, the population of the village has shifted its interest to industry and to the city of Terni. With the establishment of the protected area of the Black River Park, in 1995, there was a reversal of the local people who came back to look carefully to agriculture to that of biological species.

Ciao Silvio,

Ciao e buona serata
