Photographer's Note

Alley of the Basilica (in truth the rests roman are of a little temple) is one of the more fascinating places of the ancient Spoleto, rich of spontaneous building solutions, external scales and arches rampanti, all in a fascinating to be chased of lights and shadows. The medieval walls burned from the time rise over the massive rests of the ancient constructions roman and of it they represent the continuity in the time, to testimony that Spoleto is remained important town also in the dark centuries.

Silvio, your POV captures the scale and angles of the place perfectly, as does the expression and body language of the woman walking up toward the camera. Lovely lighting streaming in from above to illuminate the alleyway.

I like the tall vertical framing. It helps give a real feel of depth as the figure gives a sense of scale. Great use of textures and limited colours.

Ciao Silvio. E 'sempre bello di vedere una certa animazione quando si sta guardando le strutture in pietra. In questa foto mi viene in mente quanto gli abitanti devono camminare e come devono essere sani. La scena mi ricorda delle strade strette e ripide a Dubrovnik. Strutture meravigliose e una luce delicata in questa composizione verticale. I miei migliori auguri. Klaudio.

Other than the elegant black frame on which this photograph is mounted, there is this frame within - the walls below the archway. The major source of light from the background is through the arched passage. The turn in the alley and the trudge of the lady up the stairs gives the photograph its action / motion. True - it's a statement of the times .....

The lady adds interest to the picture even if these old buildings would be interesting enough. A well composed picture with a dominance of strong vertical lines.

This looks spookily similar to a recent posting of mine, made in Cortona. You've also included a passer-by (but a good-looking woman rather than an old man!), and the archway also frames the composition. Great minds obviously think alike!

il punto di vista offre una prospettiva morbida ed attraente, la composizione riempie il quadro con il fascino della squisita massoneria antica ed il mistero di tante finestre diverse lungo gli alti muri. La luce passa gentilmente da questo vicolo accarezzando le tessiture antiche catturate benissimo. La signora `e una presenza gradevole che porta tonalit`a armoniose con l' ambiente e rende l' immagine pi`u vivace. Complimenti e grazie!

wonderful shot here, with the tall curved arch and the small woman. its funny too how here dress is similar in color to the stones.
a visually attractive scene.
