Schioppo is a delightful village in the Nera Valley, located 475 meters above sea level, near the path that connected to Spoleto and Monteleone Ceselli through Castelmonte, behind a rock, which bears the name "rock" (lat. Scopulus ).
The settlement, clustered around the parish church, is dominated by a large tower house with tower, which formerly was probably watching and defense functions. At the town was active until the end of the century. XIX a "valchiera" that exploited a rich source of water and was also used by neighbors for washing and dyeing fabrics.
From the administrative point of view depended Schioppo Ceselli Castle, which has always followed the fortunes, until the union with the City of Scheggino. The church of S. Nicola reveals its origins in the Romanesque lancet window in the belfry and the portal reassembled in the apse wall when, in the radical restructuring of the century. XVI has changed the orientation of the church.
The interior has a nave covered with trusses, houses a fine sixteenth-century paintings and the remains of the previous century decoration. XV. Foremost among the devotional fresco paintings, dated 1541, that a developer dedicated to his knees S. Vito's grace received through the cure by the bite of a snake. Just seems to end where the road begins the difficult mountain route of the Via Contane, known locally as "the way of Spoleto, which reaches the city via Raisch (m.784), in complete abandonment, and the ruins of Castelmonte (m. 1035), already in ruins and uninhabited at the time of the pastoral visit of Bishop Lascans in 1713.
Fourteenth century the church depended on plebanate of Civitella.
Until 2006 only two residents living in the country, mother and son, Giuseppe Rossi 95 years and her daughter Mary.

Lovely subtle colours which look as if you've actually desaturated them a bit (the opposite of what most people on this site are tempted to do!) Lovely precipitous village. Do I understand you to say that only 2 people were living here in 2006? Beautiful.

per essere un paese fantasma, mi sembra ben tenuto, c'è anche un fuoristrada.
Vivere qui deve essere proprio difficile, soprattutto oggi che abbiamo bisogno di muoverci in continuazione.

Ciao caro Silvio,
A very interesting note you have written. Does anybody live in Schioppo now or is the village now totally deserted?
These lovely white stone buildings with their low-pitched roofs nestle beautifully amidst the trees on the mountainside and you have captured them perfectly. Your photograph is perfectly and pleasingly composed, the light and colours are delightful and the details and sharpness are exquisite.

A fine capture of this attractive hilltop village, whose pale toned houses sit well against the rocky background. The image is pleasantly lit and has agreeable natural colours and very good clarity.

Another pricturesque Italian village on a steep rock. While the houses look very pretty and could have inspired a cubistic painter, what inspires me the most are the trees in the foreground which show beautiful tones of green, grey and brown.

Fantastic shot from high POV of this small village nestled in the hills. I like the natural colors and light. I am sad to hear that no one lives in this fine place. Thanks for sharing a nice photo with fine colors and clarity. I enjoyed reading the elaborate note as well.

Il semble bien isolé dans la montagne ce beau petit village tout blanc au milieu de la nature toute verte. Un cadrage parfait qui donne l'impression de l'isolation.

A very attractive village with houses that are in such a good harmony with the surrounding rocks, colour-wise. An interesting note enhances the value of this picture.

The cliff and the trees are framing well the village. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the buildings. The good luminosity is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.
