Schioppo is a delightful village in the Nera Valley, located 475 meters above sea level, near the path that connected to Spoleto and Monteleone Ceselli through Castelmonte, behind a rock, which bears the name "rock" (lat. Scopulus ).
The settlement, clustered around the parish church, is dominated by a large tower house with tower, which formerly was probably watching and defense functions. At the town was active until the end of the century. XIX a "valchiera" that exploited a rich source of water and was also used by neighbors for washing and dyeing fabrics.
From the administrative point of view depended Schioppo Ceselli Castle, which has always followed the fortunes, until the union with the City of Scheggino. The church of S. Nicola reveals its origins in the Romanesque lancet window in the belfry and the portal reassembled in the apse wall when, in the radical restructuring of the century. XVI has changed the orientation of the church.
The interior has a nave covered with trusses, houses a fine sixteenth-century paintings and the remains of the previous century decoration. XV. Foremost among the devotional fresco paintings, dated 1541, that a developer dedicated to his knees S. Vito's grace received through the cure by the bite of a snake. Just seems to end where the road begins the difficult mountain route of the Via Contane, known locally as "the way of Spoleto, which reaches the city via Raisch (m.784), in complete abandonment, and the ruins of Castelmonte (m. 1035), already in ruins and uninhabited at the time of the pastoral visit of Bishop Lascans in 1713.
Fourteenth century the church depended on plebanate of Civitella.
Until 2006 only two residents living in the country, mother and son, Giuseppa Rossi 95 years and her daughter Mary.

uno Schioppo col botto. ...
Gran bel pov, il borgo è ben integrato nell'ambiente circostante, le costruzioni sembrano nascere direttamente dalle rocce.
Buon proseguimento di we

Un village accroché à la falaise qui manque un peu de charme et de couleurs. Tout semble très gris et terne.
L'ensemble est très net et lumineux.

A fine composition with a very pleasing balance to it. I like the lighting and the superb rendering of the textural detail.

Splendid composition with this small town, which shows a very homogeneous style in all their homes, with a medieval atmosphere, the surrounding landscape, with rocky walls and trees, adds to the charm of the place.
Nice color, in these natural tones.
Also both sharpness, such as lighting are great.
Very well done.
Enjoy the weekend.
All the best.

The white exteriors makes this little cluster of buildings stand out from the rocky position. Very good detail in this interesting shot.
Kind Regards, Ann

You never seem to run out of beautiful little villages to photograph! This is another lovely location, the white of the buildings tempered by the dark trees beyond. Perhaps it's a shame about the electricity pylon and cable, but I don't suppose the inhabitants would want to be without it!

Attractive Romanesque-Gothic rock architecture in varying angles and heights, all with tile roofs.
And well preserved after all these centuries with historical heritage for romantics.
Thanks for sharing,
Your California friend,

The trees are framing well the village. The point of view is showing the details and the colors of the buildings of the village. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

An informative accompanying note and superb sharpness and lighting on the picturesque hillside village. Good exposure on the highlights with excellent shadow detail. It looks to be in very good condition considering only 2 people live there now. Have a nice week!
