Photographer's Note

San Marco is a fraction of the town of Norcia (Perugia).
The country lies at an altitude of 1,125 m above sea level on a hill overlooking the plain on one side of St. Scholastica and, second, the course of the Via Salaria. According to the census of 2001, Istat, residents are 18 (sammarcani).
The first type of settlement recorded in the area dates from the Iron Age, when the first settlers built a fort, a settlement that is defensive, very primitive, partly by exploiting the terrain. Later, in the Middle Ages, the Lombards built there a curtis, who then ended up falling under the jurisdiction of the Duchy of Spoleto. The village church, however, depended on the Abbey of Sant'Eutizio in Castoriana val. Among the residents of San Marco assursero to important positions, let's remember the consuls John Gennaro and Luca Bucciarelli (1437), Antonio Pietropaolo (1525), Terence Costanzo (1614), Alessandro Gian Benedetto (1621). The present castle was built between the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century.

The wounds inflicted by the earthquake on the night of 19 September 1979 are still visible, symbolically represented never recovered from the house where three people were killed, but San Marco di Norcia, 1100 meters above sea level, one of the twenty five villages of the town's largest Valnerina, redeeming and still maintains his dignity and strength of community.
