Messenano

Small town and castle of Spoleto.
Formerly part of the Terre Arnolfe and lordship of the Marquis of Cesi for centuries has been linked to the town of Spoleto.
A delightful little village completely restored to the traditional building types.
The castle, built in the fourteenth century is now a high and mighty tower. Near the tower there is the church of Saint Apollinaris of the twelfth century, of a single nave, shows a fresco on the left side of the eighteenth century, while a small shrine on the right. In the churchyard are the remains of some Roman columns and two sarcophagi and several large stones from Roman times which suggest that this village has developed in the Middle Ages on the ruins of a Roman building.
