It is believed that the town was founded ( along with San Terenziano) in the Augustan period by Roman settlers . The Castle The town's name derives from caves or Grott'ombra , the terms in which it is designated in the Middle Ages and later , due to the area full of tunnels and caves carved into the rock of travertine that extends to S. Terenziano ; In the past , these were used as a shelter for animals , or even as a bomb shelter during World War II . Some documents indicate that these places were used by early Christians in the catacombs to take refuge , the followers of St. Terenziano bishop of Todi . The castle dates back to the ' eleventh century , in 1126 it was surrounded by solid walls by Ghibelline lords . In 1347 he was considered "villa" and counted 16 families . Nearby stands the old abbey church of S. Maria di Agello , built before the castle. The place was very dear to Angelo Cesi , Bishop of Todi, who did perform some restoration . The medieval structure still standing today some towers that dominate large sections of walls . The dwellings of the ancient castle are used as warehouses and cellars.
Today Grutti has just over 500 inhabitants

Buona Sabato, Silvio.
A corner in the old village that show in great details the doors and staircases leading to.
Each is differnt, an entrance to a separate living quarter of the edifice.
Green residue of moss, indicate the lack of the sunlight penetrating the labyrinth typical built towns.
Fine clear image, saluti.
Enjoy a nice holiday weekend,

very well spotted place and nicely presented in this tight framed picture. The irregular lines make this composition very intriguing and eye catching. The front of this house has plenty of nice details and you managed to include them all. Pretty colors, perfect sharpness and well given contrast.
Have a nice Easter!

What a charming and rustic little composition. I love the details, the repetition of doors and stairs and the varied stonework - all wonderful. Your tight composition is very effective in making all of these features stand out,
Congrats on a lovely shot, it makes me want to wander into this quite little street.

J'aime beaucoup le petit côté graphique de cette composition. L'architecture est très anarchique comme tout dans cette région. J'aime bien la texture de la pierre.

Hello Silvio - A composition full of textures. I like the way you have featured stairs, windows and doors here. This looks like an attractive place to live. I had a look on Google Earth, it's lovely and rural.
Nice detail shot.

Excellent infor note: Amazing architecture of a historic site, detail of the aged stonework is most enchanting nicely cropped and how nice to see that it's so well preserved to this day. It's crispy throughout, clear and sharp in good natural colours. Glorious well done shot, Congrats and TFS

Ciao Silvio, What a pity the points are not 111111 :). Amazing corner in Grutti. You found a marvelous spot, I love these stone walls and small stairs. Stunning shot. And so good for you that instead of sitting by the table you went for shooting such fascinating photos.
Have a nice Easter day

Instructive post Silvio, that house was built using rocks arranged together
two stairs leads to different rooms
