Photographer's Note

Ancient castle of the town of Spoleto, now part of the City of San'Anatolia.
In the Middle Ages Grotti discouraged the establishment of new households by imposing a high tax for foreigners.
Set in an troglodyte behind a high rock wall with a dominant fortress The territory circostate.
The town of Grottoes is today in sparsely upstream and downstream of the road to Spoleto, divided into four groups homogeneous Castle, Monteverde, San Pietro, Burghittacciu and many other houses scattered around. The name certainly comes from the morphology of the place where there are caves, ravines, rocky peaks and gaps that have been exploited in the construction of the first homes. Upstream of the town are the remains of the ancient castle of the Middle Ages, where we see many natural elements, dominated by the fortress called La Torre.
The parish church of St. Peter is located in one of the nuclei of the country, of ancient origin, but much altered by subsequent interventions, inside which are preserved some seventeenth-century paintings of the same period of 1857 and an organ, built by Eugenio Sword (from the church St. Gregory of Spoleto) and restored in 1985 by Piccinelli Ponteranica. Every year in the month of June is held in the church an organ concert organized by the Rocca di Spoleto.
In a central position to the village there is the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the SS. Sacramento or the Addolorata, which contains an interesting series of paintings of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, recently restored by the Superintendency of Perugia. Not far from the village, along the road to Spoleto, is the church of Our Lady of Scentelle, with an adjoining chapel, inside which is visible image of the Madonna with Child attributed to the painter James Piermarino of Castel San Felice. Near Grotti is also the name of Rocca EISA, a place where according to mythology Lombard would be hidden by the famous chicken golden chicks.
