My preference is for country life rather than city life and it was the Italian landscapes and gardens that prompted me to visit the country. I was totally captivated by the landscapes of Tuscany and Umbria and while this stand of trees has been photographed many times over I had to see them and photograph them for myself. We hired a car in Lucca and drove down to the Val d’Orcia.
This exact spot was marked on the map I had created and uploaded to our gps and was a ‘dreamscape’ for me. My husband couldn’t understand what the attraction of a clump of trees was photographically but to me it speaks eloquently of the Tuscan landscape.
The symbols of the Val d'Orcia are the cypress-trees that dot the countryside. More than any other the cypress tree has become a symbol of the Val d'Orcia. Since ancient times it has been highly considered: it was worshipped by the Phoenicians who believed it represented the eternal flame, used by the Etruscans to adorn tombs, in the Book of Genesis it is the wood used to build Noah’s Ark, ancient Rome considered it a sacred tree and used the wood to sculpt religious figures destined to last for eternity, an example of this is the statue of Jupiter in the Campidoglio in Rome.
The cypress is now present throughout the Mediterranean basin.
These Cypress trees are situated between Montalcino and San Quirico d'Orcia.

The clump of cypress trees amidst the rolling plains... absolutely breath taking. Tuscany is really very special. I like very much your composition and the color of the scene. Finally, I like very much the note you've provided as an accompaniment.
Warm regards and have a good weekend,

now this is special! A most appropriate title for this as it is so simple and beautiful. I look for images just like this when out on my travels. It is photographic art and would look quite at home on any gallery wall. Superb!
Enjoy a peaceful weekend - B.
PS thanks for the 4 points today! - very flattered. B X

I can vy easily see the atraction of this place, it is beautiful, and you composed the clump of magic trees perfectly off centre too. This image has the same dream like quality that I associate with so many of your images from Namibia too!how cool it is to carry that skill with you around the world. Magical colors and sky too, a beautiful scene.
I hope all is well.

I like this picture because of the wide empty spaces: there is nothing but the green field, the blue sky and the little forest. The picture is simple, uncluttered, but beautiful, peaceful, graphical.

You certainly had a beautiful day to photograph this 'clump' of trees. Amazing light and colours. The photograph is outstanding. I am sure that it gave you immense satisfaction to see this landscape and photograph it for yourself.

I can perfectly understand your attraction to this scenery. I remember when I was in Tuscany thinking to myself ... I'm really looking at and recording this iconic scene! It was almost 'I must pinch myself' situation.
You have recorded it with true artistry, the lush, green grass, as a prelude, the cypress trees tightly clustered, off-centre, and all set against that magical sky.
Your title is very apt!
Have a great day,

A very nice and typical shot of Tuscany. The cypresses are very well placed in the foreground. Perfectly composed and with superb colours and clarity.

Une photo de paysage comme tu sais si bien les réussir, remarquablement composée avec un beau travail sur les couleurs. Je crois qu'une version panoramique avec moins de ciel aurait aussi été intéressante.

Hello Rosemary, I am not sure what I prefer in Tuscany. The landscape is marvelous but also the cities. Marvelous green hills and this island of cypresses, so Italian. Have you met any TE friends?

Wow! What a beautiful landscape post this! The pastel tones and very well executed saturation made the scene so special and unique. Love it! Charming visual effect achieved.
Have a nice Saturday!

I like very much the minimalism, depth and eloquence of your description. The wavy green landscape and the stand of trees have been excellently placed under the vast sky. A picture of superb elegance with a creative touch in the rendering of colours and an enchanting atmosphere. One of my favourite books is A Room With a View and I can't help thinking about it (and the film) while viewing this beautiful picture. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,

a very evocative photograph that has been expertly conceived and beautifully created, the little clump of trees amongst the rolling fields is so typical of the area.
The colours are simply delightful in a stunning shot.
Kind regards Les.

I think your husband has yet a lot to learn about the photographic eye and to detect a potential dreamscape, may it well look mundane at first glance.
This is a absolute stunner of a landscape. The gently rolling hills, the off center clump of trees and the gorgeous sky above it, all add up to a truly magnificent dreamscape.
Good for you to know the exact GPS coordinates of this place.
have a great weekend

I can see why you would hire a car to go and look for this stand of cypresses. It is simply lovely. The light and natural colours are superb. A simple composition that is so satisfying. I am asking myself why we did not hire a car when we stayed at Lucca.
PaulVDV (24369) 2014-06-01 3:17
With the cypresses and the green rolling hills you present us the beauty of a Tuscan landscape.
On the thumbnail I thought for a moment that too much space was given at the sky but not when I look at the picture.
A simple composition but a very beautiful one!
Best regards, Paul

Great ideas to colour pop this shot with blue & green combination blessed by such a brilliant warm light. Minimalist shot but effectively composed, the trees settle the focus on the gentle green slope portraying the feel of this remarkable expansive rural landscape. A great view point, depth and perspective as well as an excellent scale ref and lead. Congrats

Ciao cara Rosemary
This is just superb, so quintessentially Tuscan and right out of a dream sequence. I love the simplicity and minimalism of the shot. The undulating hills and cypress trees are almost like a flag for this wonderful province. Stunning colours and contrasts, a really beautiful photo, congratulations.

Well, there's something about that area of Italy...Lovely iconic image, you've captured the essence of it.
photographer_sg (4410) 2014-06-03 7:59
superb shot with the minimum of elements! The sky and the lovely undulating grassland provide real visual delight. The clump of trees complements them perfectly. Thanks for sharing this beautiful dreamscape.
Have a nice evening.

Ciao e buona serata

I'm sure many of us share the same sentiment, that one would feel right at home in a place like this. I had to laugh thinking of your note, for those who aren't into photography, it's hard to understand why this simple scene would be so incredibly compelling. Look at it though, it's the essence of the region, stripped down to its bare minimum...and yet, holds so much appeal and charm. Coupled with the vivid colors of the landscape and pastel tones of the sky, it all melts together quite deliciously. I've used the term before for a few other pictures seen here, and I'll do the same now...this is simplicity refined and defined to perfection. Well done! Have a great day ahead. All the best.

Good morning dear friend
I love country ife too and I love all those
colors after the birth of the Nature
this green landscape changes my mood
now and I am feeling better looking
at this amazing blue sky
the painter took only two colors from
his palette blue for the sky and green
for the landscape the trees make the
difference and according to your useful notes
and me too I am captivated by this green
landscape and the stand of the trees
have a nice time

I really like this shot. A simple but very effective composition. Less is more sometimes and this is a very good example of how to illustrate that. Horizon on a third, Cypress trees on a third, contrast between green grass and blue/pink sky. It appeals to the minimalist in me and I would hang that in my gallery any day of the week.
CLODO (32144) 2014-06-19 23:06
the title is a good sumarize of the picture! I like the ground undulations and the small pine wood is perfectly located in the image. Green color is giving us a sense of quietness whereas the immense sky let us dream!
have a nice WE

I really like your composition here, giving each element space
serp2000 (42056) 2014-07-02 21:15
I 've take this photo 'cause it reminds me my latest post. The same structure and balance of the composition, similar colors. Good title and very interesting note, I think this is very interesting composition, I don't agree with your husband ;) Excellent presentation of Tuscany landscape.
