Photographer’s Note

A typicall view in the old Middle Ages city centre of the most part of north-central Italy villages and townes: Iron rings on the wall used in the past to tie the horse puttin the reins inside.

In the small city centre of Pienza the most part of the streets and the main square have dozens of this iron rings, with different shapes and decorations.

This one have a head of a screaming fox on the top.

Olá Paolo, wonderful textured picture and nice detail of the iron ring screaming in pain has it was common in Middle Ages. Superb abstract approach with excellent colors.

What a nice combination of elements in this photo! Textures, rich textures... with warm color variations! And this odd "keltish" styled iron ring (certainly not keltish but that's what it evokes to me if I look at it)...

PS: By the way as an Architect maybe you could tell me what influence the decoration style is? It kinda (also) reminds me a statue of the wolf with Romulus and Remus that I once saw in an art book...

The light coming from the left is perfect for highlighting all the pattern and texture of the old wall. It is also providing an interesting blue tone to the ring itself. The unusual compositional choice works well, creating some kind of tension as most of us would have placed the ring on the left.

Hello Paolo,
I am getting back on the Trek Earth cicuit after having a few months of family matters to attend to. This is a gorgeous closeup shot with fabulous colors and textures. The blue iron ring (being the opposite color of the orange stone) acts like a powerful magnet to catch people's attention. The fox's head on top of the iron piece is an interesting detail also. You are reminding me that I need to take more detail shots. A great photo here!
