Pienza, known in the past under the name of Corsignano, is a simple Tuscan village when is born Enea Silvio de' Piccolomini to with it, future pope Pie II. One year after its election, in 1459, Black and white II pupil his native village with the row of city and episcopal residence, under the new name of “Pienza”, derived from Pius. He undertakes a vast program, qu' he entrusts to l' architect Bernardo Rossellino, intended to make Pienza a model city of the Rebirth. Its death in 1464 met a premature term with the operations: it n' will have had time to make build qu' a pontifical palate, a cathedral and a place.
