This is a shot that I dedicate to my dear friend Carlo (carlo62) and his lovely wife Christina. Like this gate they were open and inviting and despite the big language gap, we had a fabulous day with them journeying from Lucca to Pisa and Liverno and enjoying good local food and plenty of laughs. Seeing Carlo’s ‘home turf ‘ was wonderful and meeting a fellow TE’er a treat. I thank you Carlo, you gave a us a day to remember.
This shot was taken by the old wall of Pisa.

Good idea to frame the view with the gate. Lovely vibrant colours and contrast between light and shadow.
Have a nice weekend

Excellent choice to use the old gateway as a frame for the delightfully lit buildings beyond. Ideally exposed with excellent colours and clarity. The person at the far end of the footbridge makes a fine focal point and ties it all together.

I feel like I could step into this image. It has such depth and is so clear and inviting. Lovely colours.

The old gate - with an attractive pattern of ironwork at the top - invites us to discover the colourful streets of the town.
A nice dark frame for the extremely colourful image that we see behind the gate.
Excellently composed and very good depth.
Best regards, Paul

not your usual shot from Pisa where the famous tower always commands attention naturally. This is a beautifully enticing shot which is composed and executed to perfection. Light management spot on, and the effect just captivating.
Enjoy the weekend - B.

J'aime beaucoup la façon dont le bleu ressort sous cette arche, J'aime les images qui sortent de l'ombre pour exploser dans la lumière. Les couleurs sont très belles à l'arrière plan.

What a beautiful scene in this shot for a dedication to Carlo, I imagine he is very pleased :) It seems you have hit every photographers check box here. Depth of field, leading line, framing, light and shadow, stunning contrast color...brilliant! This is like a lesson in how to do photography 100% right. And its a beautiful colorful and pleasing scene too. Really nicely done.
have a nice Saturday!

What an amazing capture of this open iron door. Very good compo and light management.
The eyecatching part is the upper part with the nice contrast of deep blue sky and the bright yellow paint of the fassade.
TFS and best regards

Fine Pisa view, through the ornate metal gate with the ancient ruin and medieval architecture ahead.
And symbolic of Trekies opening the gate of sharing around our Earth.
and best wishes,

this is an original composition that I like very much. We often try to frame views through gates and arches but this is original because there's superb use of perspective and depth and the foreground is as important and interesting as the background. This is really an achievement since the view through is so rich and colourful but you managed to exalt the textures and patterns of the entrance and bring out its charm too. You dealt with the challenges of lighting superbly. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Très joli travail photographique, bien composé et avec une remarquable gestion des lumières. Cette porte ouverte sur la ville est très symbolique de TE .....et de l'accueil de Carlo!

It's a gate that I remember from my visits to Pisa, offering appropriate symbolism for Carlo's hospitality. There are two other elements in this lovely medieval city with impressive symbolism for me. The tower appropriately shaped to allow "free-fall experiments" for Galileo, and the massive chandelier that was set into motion when Galileo was in the Cathedral (I used them in my book, "Math and the Mona Lisa"). Thanks for sharing this lovely gate shot with us.

Rosemary, I love the colors through the gate here, particularly the incredibly blue sky. You've managed to keep the detail in the dark surrounding arch while leaving the bright colors intact and not blown out. Thanks.

Good evening Rosemary,
There are many similar places in Pisa, as I remember - but you chosen one spot, that compensate with stunning blue sky, good light over the alley, and old architecture's style mingle beautifully with the more modern's.
DOF and clarity are immaculate on the picture.

Two nicer people I couldn't imagine. A beautiful dedication to beautiful people. I will never forget Carlo's generosity and kindness when we were in Pisa. A beautiful, very characteristic shot, that is quintessentially Italian. Between yours and Craig's Italian photos, I might find myself sleepwalking onto a Qantas jet bound for Rome! Excellent work, again, I love the vertical cut.

An interesting note, a fine dedication to Carlo and Christina and a very fine photograph too.
There is something about the architecture of old Italy which makes it so perfectly photogenic and you have captured that magic here perfectly - the ancient stonework, the heavy wrought iron gates, the brightly coloured facades, the flowers - and all beneath a glorious azure sky. A fine composition taking advantage of the opened gate, good lead in afforded by the bridge and perfect arrangement of the distant colourful buildings.
Glorious light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite depth of field and sharpness.

A taste of olde time feel and the depth seen thru the old wall entrance with its painstaking detail impressively composed from excellent pov. The exposure is great with excellent effect and nice exploitation of the situation, it's really sharp, full of lively colours and the intense blue sky adds the extra boost to the shot. A beautiful little sight well organised and captured, Congrats
