Pitigliano, nearly four thousand inhabitants, is a town in the province of Grosseto located 313 meters above sea level. Charming village of the Maremma is unique for the distinction of being built entirely on a tuff promontory of striking beauty , surrounded by valleys crossed by rivers and Meleta lens . The town is certainly one of the most beautiful art centers of Tuscany and Italy , retains many monuments of art ranging from the Middle Ages to the eighteenth century .
According to the legend it was founded by two young men from two young men, and Petilio Celiano , from which derives the name of the city. Petilio Petilia of the gens was an important Etruscan Roman family , while Celiano belonged to the family of Etruscan Celes Vibenna , the two young men stole the golden crown from the temple of Jupiter Stator in Rome and brought it right on the cliff of Pitigliano, where they founded the city . In fact Pitigliano is certainly older , prior to the Etruscan civilization itself, is documented here a Bronze Age village , but the cliff of Pitigliano , as the whole valley of the river Fiora , has been inhabited since the Neolithic period ( sixth millennium BC) and then in the Copper Age
Etruscan settlement , due to the nearby city of Veii, reached its apogee in the sixth century. , Replacing the nearby town of Poggio Buco on Fiora , who returned necropolis and the remains of a temple around 500 BC is probably destroyed by Porsena , king of Chiusi. The Etruscan name is not known with certainty, perhaps Statnes (or Staties ) which in Roman times became Prefecture and was called Statonia
The name Pitigliano is documented for the first time in 1061 in a bubble of Nicholas II to the canons of Sovana , it seems, in fact , derive from the gens Petilia , an important Roman family who gave their name to different locations . In 1274 Pitigliano is one of the largest forts in the county of the Aldobrandeschis in the wars with the City of Orvieto
In 1313 , the Orsini took over by marriage to Aldobrandeschis in the County of Sovana forced to long battles with municipalities before Orvieto and then in Siena, after the conquest by the latter of almost all of the Maremma , including Sovana in 1410 , the Orsini in Pitigliano move the capital of the county.
Nel1466 with the coming to power of Nicholas III , captain in the service of the major Italian states Pitigliano is enriched with Renaissance monuments , they work with artists such as Antonio da Sangallo , Baldassare Peruzzi , Anton Maria Lari. Since the end of the fifteenth century was home to a large Jewish community. In 1604 , Ferdinand I , Grand Duke of Tuscany, buys all the possessions of the Orsini , ending the county of Pitigliano , by mid-century , an increasing number of Jews , who find safe haven , in 1643 the Medici foil an attempt to occupation by papal troops .
Nel1843 Pitigliano assumes the title of city with the transfer of the Diocese from Sovana and through economic growth favored by the Enlightenment reforms of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany.

Hello dear Silvio,
Very nice capture of this Aquaduct in Ptitgliano.
The graphism created by long and intense shadows is great.
TFS and best regards

Provocative view of the Acquedotto Mediceo for its tall uniform arched construction, and the shadows enhancing the geometry.
And I would love to stroll here like the other people.

Interesting architectural details!
Attractive picture with special regards to the management of light (I love the shadows of those arches and also the light that bathes them), chosen pov and composition!

Excellent framing of the fine construction.
The people to the left in the image are really adding to the impression.

Ciao Caro Silvio,
You have chosen a fine place, to share with us!
The repeating verticals and converging lines make irresistible leads from the f/g to the b/g of the scene. The highlights and shadows are equally attractive, mirroring the originals and creating a sort of herringbone pattern.
The figures are a very useful addition, giving us animation and scale.
My warm regards,

Another beautiful arrangement of the pillars, an inspired lively composition and all the wonderful repeats --- the inclusion of the visitors punctuates with flair! Clean, well exposed and well coloured in warm tones, A very pleasing shot, Congrats

Good repetition of the arches and their shadows with excellent sharpness, colour & saturation. The people add scale and context. Excellent density with good shadow detail and no oe in the highlights. I like the diminishing linear perspective and converging lines going from bottom left to top right. Tfs!

Complimenti e grazie!
tanti saluti e tutto il meglio,
