Since the end of the fifteenth century was home to a large Jewish community. In 1604, Ferdinand I, Grand Duke of Tuscany, buys all the possessions of the Orsini, ending the county of Pitigliano, by mid-century, an increasing number of Jews, who find safe haven, over the centuries the Jewish community lived in harmony with the rest of the inhabitants of Pitigliano, always protected at the various pogroms, particularly after the enactment of the racial laws by the hateful fascism. After the war, the city-abbbandono has also involved the Jewish community, both in 1960 after a long period of neglect the Sinagoca crolava and the Jewish quarter was effectively abandoned. In 1995 it was provided to the reconstruction and restoration of the underlying Edifici area including the Ritual Bath, Cantina Kesger, the dyeing, the Butcher Kesher and the oven of unleavened bread.
A curiosity the first jew documented with certainty in Pitigliano is a doctor, David De Pomis, one spoletino like me.

l'orgoglio spoletino prevale su tutto il resto.
Un bel documento, non conoscevo il luogo e la storia di questa comunità.
Una bella condivisione.

A good diffused light with superb sharpness and a good exposure on the highlights at right. Good shadow and textural details. If I am not mistaken pani is bread. The sad decline of the Jewish quarter has a happy ending with the restoration works. Tfs!
