Last week Roger (rogerl - "At The Top Of Florence") posted a wonderful perspective and view over Florence from the domed cathedral pictured here . In fact, if you look close enough you can see people around the top…after they made the challenging ascent of 463 steps.
In that picture, we were able to see the adjacent Campanile. That is where I took this picture, looking back in the opposite direction…after climbing up 414 steps of my own, a workout in its own right! Unfortunately neither one of us had much of a clear sky to work with, but you certainly can’t beat the breathtaking view’s from either spot!
Thanks for taking a look!

this could be just one place-Florence with its distinctive Cathedral!Magnificent shot and really good POV to realize how huge the dome is(the people on the view platform give excellent sense of scale) and to realize the genius of Filippo Brunelleschi, who designed the dome. The vertial format suits well the scene. Also the quality is superb.
By the way:did you take some picture inside the Cathedral?
Thanks for sharing and have a good day

Tout un point de vue pour nous montrer ce célèbre dôme. On a une très bonne idée de son volume lorsque l'on regarde la taille des personnages au sommet. Le cadrage vertical est très avantageux.

I am glad you mentioned the campanile, I was about to think of the balloon chair again :)
This really is a spectacular place, its colours and the design of its walls really beautiful and so unusual. All the side capels and domes and towers make this a building I would spend hours wandering around. I can only imagine how many shots you could take here.
you mentioned a while ago aout grown up lego, given the right shaped pieces this would be one of the first I would build!
All the best

Very good perspective over the great Dome of firenze, view from the hight of the Campanile.
Overwhelming architecture, red roof-tiles and an extended sight of the town.
Mine is a street view upwards.

...once again, Jason,
Good reminder of your Italian trip of 2002. I am sure, you have plans to visit someday the Old World. Your shot reminds me my roof's walk in Vienna.))

good quality picture even if a scanned one. Clear blue skies are not always there for us, I know it so well and 463 steps won't be a problem for me any more after certain climbs, lol.
I like the way you filled the frame with that giant dome leaving just enough space for the city beneath to cuddle up to it. Awesome sight. The graphic lines of the dome, the color palette - all works so well together.
My compliments on your beautiful work.
Have a nice day!

dal campanile di Giotto la vista è splendida, la città si svela agli occhi e la cupola è impressionante.
Ottimo pov e bella proposta.

C'est une très bonne qualité pour une photo scannée. Le point de vue est parfait, et l'encadrement reprend bien les couleurs de la composition. C'est un travail très soigné et bien réalisé.

Very attractive panorama. I like the architecture, and the presentation. Well taken.
Have a fine day.

Beautiful scan, often the quality of scans are
not that nice. Picture has a excellent composition:
the viewer can almost feel the highness and the
picture has a lots of depth. The light management
is also great.

Jason, nice shot! I remember being up there. It always surprises me how peaked (not round) that dome is. This shot really shows well how the cathedral dominates the rest of the city. Thanks.

I can relate to that shot. I remember the first time I visited Florence and the feeling I got while walking those streets is still very alive in me. I liked this city quite a bit. Much more than Roma or Venezia actually. There is something about those streets and those buildings that I found nowhere else in Italy.
And your shot brought it all up in an instant. your vintage point of view gives a glimpse of the labyrinth own the old town.
The colors of the duomo makes me think it was kinda wet. The haze in the distance does not give you the spectacular sky landscapist always look for but it creates a mood that really fits the compo. The duomo is such a strong anchor in your composition that you needed some balance in the distance and in my opinion the hazy horizon does balance it.
I could have guessed it was on film. You just can't reproduce that feel on digital.
