Sansepolcro is a town of over 16,300 inhabitants in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany , at the border with Umbria and Marche.
Free Tuscan town first and then the cradle of Renaissance culture gave birth to famous historical figures such as Piero della Francesca , Luca Pacioli , Cherubino Alberti and Matteo di Giovanni .
It is the most populous town and the administrative center of the Tuscan Tiber Valley , though belonging geographically to the umbra from 1441 is administratively part of Tuscany.
Founded in the tenth century , according to tradition by Arcano and Egidio , two pilgrims returning from the Holy Land , who founded a monastic community.
The municipal courts are documented since 1163 ,
In 1301 Borgo Sansepolcro passes under the dominion of Uguccione Faggiuola and , twenty years later , Guido Tarlati . From 1335 to 1351 there was a period of submission to Perugia , 1351-1358 Sansepolcro occupy the Visconti of Milan. Over the next decade Sansepolcro submit to Città di Castello. Then back to be part of the papal dominions , to then be given in 1370 to the Malatesta of Rimini. At the end of the fifteenth century it became a fief of different leaders : Fortinbras said Niccolò Piccinino and, subsequently, Bartolomeo d' Alviano and again for a short time Niccolò Fortinbras. During the Battle of Anghiari , fought June 29, 1440 , 2,000 men of Sansepolcro join the army to fight against the league Piccinino Florentine - papal . In 1441 , defeated Piccinino , Sansepolcro was pledged in Florence.
In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries the city's economy is particularly thriving thanks to the cultivation of woad plant used in dyeing of fabrics and marketed in the nearby Adriatic ports .
Significant intervention conducted in the 50s on the walls of the sixteenth century on the initiative of Cosimo I de 'Medici , who wanted to fortify the border of the Florentine state in view of the war against Siena to avoid the expense of expanding the walls in 1555 were culled the hamlets outside , causing considerable damage to the city planning. During the sixteenth Sansepolcro , elevated to bishop by Pope Leo X in 1520 and awarded the title of "city" , knows a moment of remarkable artistic flowering , thanks to the openings to Rome (the family of the Alberti ) and the nearby areas of ' Umbria ( with painters Cristoforo Gherardi and Raffaellino from the Hill ) and Marche (still with the very active Raffaellino from the Hill ) . Moreover, the fact that the territory of the new diocese also includes the Val di Bagno, in Romagna, helps to create deep social and cultural relationships with the area, within which Sansepolcro , again for all the XVI century , stands as a crossroads and economic and cultural meeting place . In this period the city is visited by various personalities : Pope Clement VII in 1525 and in 1532 and the Grand Dukes of Tuscany Ferdinando I and Cosimo II , respectively in 1593 and in 1612
Remains the domain of Medici, in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, then passed to the Lorena Augsburg , until the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy ( 17 March 1861 ) .

The well chosen point of view creates an interesting perspective between the two towers. The image is pleasantly lit and has good colours and sharpness. The people stood chatting contribute to the atmosphere of the shot.

Like Stephen, I applaud the low POV here. It allows the tower to dominate, and the height of the tower is well-balanced by the street as it heads uphill and into the background. A real lesson in composition!

ci mostri un bel particolare di questa antica città, tra l'altro avevo un cliente li vicino.
La nota va bene, ma sull'intestazione hai scritto Umbria Perugia, sei troppo abituato alla tua favolosa terra.

nice calm old town here. Amazing historic architecture. Good informations in note. Photo is well composed but in my opinion a bit unsharp.
Have a nice evening.

There is a mystic, old-world charm to the photograph. The street with a few pedestrians reinforce the calm and quietude of the place. The soft colours almost in pastel also contributes to the effect. The POV is interesting since it allows for the whole of the tower in the foreground as well as the long street that winds below a portico around the right-centre of the photograph.
The hazy clouds in a calm blue sky lends a soft charm to the scene.
Thanks for sharing, Silvio.
