Photographer’s Note

Today, at the 33rd Session of the World Heritage Committee in Sevilla, the Dolomites have been inscribed in the UNESCO's World Heritage List.

Here the motivation from the official website:

The site of the Dolomites comprises a mountain range in the northern Italian Alps, numbering 18 peaks which rise to above 3,000 metres and cover 141,903 ha. It features some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes anywhere, with vertical walls, sheer cliffs and a high density of narrow, deep and long valleys. A serial property of nine areas that present a diversity of spectacular landscapes of international significance for geomorphology marked by steeples, pinnacles and rock walls, the site also contains glacial landforms and karst systems. It is characterized by dynamic processes with frequent landslides, floods and avalanches. The property also features one of the best examples of the preservation of Mesozoic carbonate platform systems, with fossil records.

The pic shows some of the most famous Dolomite peaks in the Geissler / Odles Group: Furchetta, Sass Rigais, Fermeda.

When I took this shot last year, the light conditions were not the best but I want somehow to mark this day.

I burocrati dell'UNESCO sarebbero stati passiti di controlli antidoping e trattamento sanitario obbligatorio qualora avessero escluso le dolomiti dalla lista....sia perché oggettivamente sono una meraviglia....sia perché in quella lista hanno inserito di quegli obrobri!

Ciao Guenther. Sono stato in Badia questo fine settimana e non posso che concordare con le scelte fatte risottolinenado il rispetto che questi splendidi luoghi meritano e devono ricevere.

Hi Guenther,

I agree with the committee that dolomites deserve to be on UNESCO list. It is a pity that the sky here is uninteresting, without blue or clouds but what one can do. Impressive rochy walls behind the mountain meadows.

foto difficile per il gran contrasto luminoso, ma degna di nota, comunque, per la bellezza del paesaggio e perchè testimonianza e divulgazione di un'importante riconoscimento internazionale per queste terre meravigliose.

Ciao Guenther,come ho già detto ad Andrea (grigand) patrimonio dell'Umanità lo sono gia da un bel po', monumento unico della natura con i più fantastici panorami del mondo, bellissimo quello che ci mostri nella tua splendida foto, bravo, ciao Silvio
PS prima o poi Castelluccio mettilo in programma, ne vale la pena:)
