"Saline" on sunset, a photo from Trapani, Sicily

Photographer's Note

The salt pans are essentially an artificial environment, constructed over the centuries wresting land from the sea, through the creation of new tanks and moving the original shoreline of several kilometers. Although artificially formed, the salt riproducolo a natural environment: that of the lagoon, which, although in different forms, pre-existed the creation of salt.
It is therefore shallow, warm, and variable salinity, from the sea and very salty, wherever they may live only a few organisms, including the Halobacterium, some of the most primitive living organisms.
All bodies of salt are therefore to a lagoon, with some variations due to the presence of precisely sovrassalate areas (although even in nature we find the "natural salt" where we have coastal ponds that dissaccano leaving deposits of salt). We will then many species of molluscs, crustaceans, polychaete worms, and of course a rich algal vegetation. Remember the note of the crustaceans Artemia salina, adapted to living in water sovrassalate.
The fish, at least in the tanks so-called "fridde", ie those whose salinity differs little from that of the sea, are very numerous. Bass, bream, mullet, are the fish most commonly raised.

super-geometriche, queste saline - bellissima la luce dorata in primo piano, ma soprattutto mi piace il mulino stile Don Chisciotte...

Che bella vista! Che meravigliosa composizione in uno verticale formato. L'immagine e molto dinamica e piena di ritmo con anche un'ottima profundità. Il laminatoio a vento e la luna sono molto ben locati nel immagine e danno equilibrata e effetto grafico. Molto bei colori ben collecti anche.

Recently I saw a horizontal version similar to this one.
I like this more tighter one as the tight crop around the mill gives a completely different dimension to the landscape.
Beautiful orange teints in both sky and water while everything else is a strong contrasting silhouette.
Very good compo from this pov.

Hi, Giorgio. The different lines separating the salt pans give a very good structure and depth to your foreground. So do the different colours we can find there. The mill is very well placed in your composition, making a good balance with the sun in the right part of your image. The silhouettes stand out very well against the sky and the colours are stunning.

Hello Giorgio! Ohhh what a SUNSET! The ones we miss all winter and dream about them, hopeing that the wet period may go over quick. The different basins created exciting patterns, very graphic of course. The little windmill is just so pretty and perfect, the huge sunball impressive, soon enough hiding behind the hill. Wow ! The best time to visit the salt pans is without any doubt with sunset.
Very nice colours of the sky and the reflections in the water of the salt pans.
The many dark borders of the pans give the picture a splendid graphical effect. Also the silhouettes of the trees are great but the 'finishing touch' here is the silhouette of the windmill !

A romantic sunset view behind the salt pools. I also visited a salt farm in Stone-Crotia- but it was the worst time of day and I couldn't manage such lovely reflections on the water.
Graphism, sharpness, colors are all amazing. Silhoutte of the mill is a nice addition to the scene.

A parte la composizione perfetta col mulinoe il sole che si guardano e la quinta dei monti a chiudere... a parte la gestione fantastica della luce... a parte la nitidezza buonissima senza essere troppa... a parte tutto questo hai trovato l'Oriente in Sicilia! Sembra davvero una voto da NG delle risaie dell'Indonesia!

This is an amazing shot! The lines and angles created by the borders of the salt pans lead the eye through the scene nicely. The lighting is outstanding with the different hues and colors created by the setting sun. The addition of the windmill is a definite plus.

Wow! Stunning layers upon layers of changing colours, with nice textures in water surface and the air is almost tangible here. Good choice to only show the silhouette of the windmill and the setting, half-hiding Sun is not overpowering the picture of total tranquility. This is an amazing place and makes me want to go back to Sicily again.

That's a dream shot of salt salines in Italy, while the windmill looks to me very Spanish. The sunset and the reflection in the water is absolutely stunning. In Thailand we have a lot of salt salines and shrimp farms around Bangkok, which look in a way similar. Next time back I will have to try to do some sunset there. Great photo job!

Questo è un capolavoro da fare invidia anche al miglior fotografo mondiale. Sicurissimo che anche il più meticoloso non riuscirebbe a trovare qualche imperfezione.
Le ombre che tagliano il riflesso sull' acqua,il sole che fà capolino dietro la montagna ed il tutto in una "palette" di fantastici colori, completa un insieme fantastico. :)))
