hello,
that ruins are of an abandoned tonnara. tonnara is a structure by the sea used for catching and elaborating tuna fishes. fisherman (ciurma) under the instructions of their boss (rais) and using long nets where trapping the tunas and then it was time for the matanza, so the killing of the fish with the use of lances and big knifes, they told me that the color of the see was changing into red from the blood quantity. there are archaeological statements that this kind of fishing exists from 4-5sec.AC. As i saw in a small search i did, the last tonnara in italy closed in the 1960's.

mi piacciono le tonnare, ne ho viste molte quando ho visitato la Sicilia. La visione da dietro la rete dà molto bene l'idea dell'abbandono.

Hi Stratos,
a very interesting view and subject too. Good to show such things of life. In a way I am glad they closed down, and due to the heavy fishing thuna is an endangered species now, why does mankind always exagerate ?

The fact that you have taken this through the net gives it a kind of poignancy, well done!

Nice shot and good chose of POV. But that wheel on the right... it makes this picture too much actual!! Anyway, if someone is interested in other "tonnara", search for "Favignana" or "Mazara del Vallo", where are located the most popular historical tonnara in Sicily.
